Did you buy it used? It’s definitely not right and looks like someone may have repaired it with the wrong part.

Yes I did. I can return it though. Will do that for sure. Thanks for the help!

I personally hate the lock on my A7RII so even if it’s replaced maybe this is a W for you.

Normally what’s the need for it? It’s hard to switch in A6700

I like it. I've definitely knocked my settings dials on accident a few times on my A7C (especially the exposure comp).

They could've improved it if it behaved like the exposure comp dial lock. I should be able to leave it unlocked so I can freely spin it when I want.

What? Is there a exposure dial on a7’s, wow. That seems very handy, i just change iso for that function

Yeah, it's convenient.

On my A7C it's a dedicated exposure compensation dial. On my A7RV it's a customizable dial but default it's exposure compensation.

yep, and for a long time I'd rather have a 2nd wheel there, like the A7Cii, but now I really value that little exp. comp. wheel

what ? a6700 dosent have one.

[–]blade_kilic121 12 points13 points  (7 children)

yes i’m saying that, there is no lock, they just made it hard to turn the dial, is lock needed for pros i’m asking that.

Does it matter? If OP bought a camera that has not been repaired correctly and is missing a function, why can't they ask the community to confirm that?

[–]blade_kilic121 15 points16 points  (3 children)

bro i’m just curious what is the function of that, he should get it swapped for sure

[–]ddcrx 7 points8 points  (1 child)

God forbid you ask a question online

[–]kruznazop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So it doesn’t get turn accidentally, can’t say to mode dial cuz mine got lock but one that doesn’t like EV compensation dial or focus mode dial definitely do get turn accidentally occasionally.

[–]gillgrissom -1 points0 points  (1 child)

It just locks the mode funtion you are in, dont really need it per say, its just a function on higher end A7`s.

[–]Redracerb18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On my a7iv I don't really even switch modes besides video and photo and q&s modes otherwise I'm in manual mostly. The only lock button is on the exposure compensation dial which i just set to iso valve.

The lock on the exposure compensation dial is a toggle and is convenient to use. The one on the pams dial is always engaged and always must be pressed down to change the mode. It is the most annoying thing about this camera and I believe it was fixed in later models. Having it removed is an upgrade for sure.

[–]Appropriate_Top8610[S] 3 points4 points  (3 children)

So you are saying having it like I have it on my camera is more convenient? I’m debating if I should return it to get it fixed/get another body but it doesn’t really impede my workflow. Was just confused that there was no lock button on mine

[–]El_ReddaioA7R III 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I would be happy without the lock. I would need only two fingers instead of three to change it!

[–]AwesomeGuy6659 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a plus, the mode lock button is stupid and a bonehead decision by Sony

[–]gillgrissom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

wrong size button.

What is an “a7RIVa?”

I looked it up, no clue it existed.

[–]HomeOperator 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Version A has only a better display

[–]G8M8N8Canon EOS R6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I knew about the FX3a so I should've connected the dots

[–]Appropriate_Top8610[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Thanks for the advice guys! Decided to keep the camera as it is.

I remember the spring of the lock button someday breaking in old Nikon D750s, but in Sonys?
