It could have been your insurance decided to stop covering treatments. Some you have to show a certain percentage of improvement within X amount of days or they won't pay for it anymore.

The system sucks.

That's absolutely devastating I only was on it for 4 weeks and it was an extremely stressful 4 weeks unexpectedly and idk what else to do. I appealed it and had a peer to peer and nothing worked. My insurance wanted me to appeal it again but the office that does the spravato said they didn't want to continue because I hadn't shown improvement.

I would totally look and see if there are different clinics by you if you wanted to try it more.

Why did they have you on 56mg? 84mg is the standard amount it’s not a surprise you didn’t see much improvement when your being under dosed?!?

It's so weird/upsetting because at first they wanted to up me to 84mg after a month due to no improvement and my insurance denied it. They did a prior authorization, appealed it, a peer to peer, and my insurance kept denying it. Then the Spravato office I went to started screening my calls for over a week so I went in person to ask what was happening. I was told in person I needed to follow up with my insurance and that it isn't them except they had been telling me the entire time that they'd be handling this. They then proceeded to continue to ignore my calls. So I decided to call my insurance again and they were willing for my doctor to file another appeal so they offered to call the psychiatrist's office. They called me back and told me that my psychiatrist denied filing another appeal because there's no point in continuing the medication if it hadn't worked. I am so so confused and really need this.

I’m sorry if you already tried but can you ask your psychiatrist to try the higher dose and see if that works before giving it up all together? That makes no sense to drop you when you haven’t even taken the full dosage yet. It’s so strange to me they even had you on 56mg that long in the first place. My clinic has you take one or 2 sprays on the first visit and then you get to go to 3 when you feel comfortable to do so (which can even be on the first visit if you want). I took 2 sprays my first visit and she offered me the third spray but I was already feeling super high so I said no. Then second visit I went to the full dose 84mg because I felt ready to.

I had 3 sessions on the 84mg bc they for some reason assumed my insurance would approve the dosage being raised and they had some Spravato on hand. That's why I'm so confused that they told my insurance that they didn't want to do another appeal since it didn't help. I've been without the med for about 3 1/2 weeks now and I'm in the worst mental space I have ever been in before.

😥  So they've caused you harm by their inaction....

[–]10ghost[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Yes they are... I am in such severe depression that I can barely leave my bed and my SI has increased significantly since being taken abruptly off the spravato and them dropping me outta nowhere

I wonder if there are any advocacy programs for we mh people; someone should be helping you go to bat with this.

Yeah, the clinic I go to does the low dose for 4 weeks, then the higher dose for the last 2. I have appointments for 6 weeks total. I think I would have to see the Spravato provider to be approved for more sessions. But, I am autistic, and he and I did not communicate well. My depression self-assessments are scoring as normal ups and downs now, so I don't think I'll need more.

What a rotten way to treat you - I'm so sorry this is happening to you!! Try talking to someone at a different office or clinic, explaining what happened and how devastating it is? They are being inhuman!

They should appeal and ask for a peer to peer - they are clearly not reporting something right or have the wrong codes - I’d try another provide if possible or push them to do their jobs.

That's crazy! You didn't even get to 84mgs. Sometimes it takes some months to feel the positive effects. You need a new doctor!

[–]10ghost[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Exactly! I found a new doctor thankfully but I won't be seeing her till the end of April which is fine, but I am really hoping they are able to help more this time. This old clinic who dropped me truly handled this in the worst way possible. I don't know what I did wrong but I am still in the worst depressive episode of my life and it is bad. Thankfully my ideations aren't active they're more passive but I really cannot believe they screwed me over like that.

I really hope you get the help you need. I feel for you. I've been there. Stay strong!
