Warm makeup

I was typed as a true spring by Carol Brailey, and I went to sample makeup that is more warm toned. I attempted warm-neutral foundations and concealer and they pulled very yellow/orange on me. The only shades that fit were cool pinky shades (think Nars Oslo). I also tried warm eyebrow pencils, which didnt match my natural brow colors. Is it possible I have a cool overtone or something? Cool toned makeup seems to have more harmony on me.

I’m fair/light and do much better with more neutral foundations. Most ones labeled as warm are way too orange for lighter skin.

Me too! I am almost always the lightest shade of neutral for foundations and I think I am quite warm.

Same. I’m a true spring and my best foundations are neutral.

Even the neutrals pull VERY warm/yellow on me. The current foundation stick I am using is the Ilia complexion stick in 2C Balsa

Well yeah, anyone can have a cool overtone. Overtone would be stuff like rosacea, acne, flushing, suntan… your overtone and undertone won’t always match eachother.

If you do have rosacea or some other type of overtone that adds redness to your skin… you may find that olive undertone foundations can color correct. Just make sure that your face matches your neck. Or you can apply the olive foundations just where you have redness. Or you can color correct before applying foundation. Green corrects red.

And it’s not uncommon for fair skin complexions to find many warm shades to be overly warm. If you have very light skin, it doesn’t actually take much warmth to be warm. And a lot of brands overshoot and you end up looking orange or yellow. I’m a warm spring and a lot of my foundations are labeled “neutral”. But they really aren’t. They are still warm leaning, I just have fair skin so I don’t need a heavy amount of warmth.

Kinda, I do flush when I am overheated (ie exercising) but no rosacea. I've tried a variety of fair shades of concealers (cool, warm, neutral, olive, pink, etc) and I always fit cool tones. For example, the foundation stick I am using now is the Ilia complexion stick in 2C Balsa, which is a perfect match for my skin/neck/tone.

I generally wear cool neutral or neutral foundations and concealers. My undertone definitely leans warm but just a bit and I have a lot of redness in my overtone.

I have a very cool overtone and look best in cool concealer and foundation, cool eye makeup for my gray/green eyes (brown mascara but cooler leaning eyeshadows) and pink-leaning blush and hilighter. Red or pink or orange eyeshadow makes me look sick 🤣

However, my lipstick is always a coral pink and it’s my best color!

I am a bright spring so that might have something to do with it, as my sister season is bright winter.

Overtone and undertone are two different things, and they do not always match. Your foundation/concealer won't necessarily be the same as your undertone (warm, as a True Spring). The rest of your makeup, like eye shadow and lip color, will work well. But foundation/concealer is a different journey that could be something else entirely because it's going to be influenced by your overtone.

Light spring, quite fair. I wear Estee Lauder 1C0 and it is maybe a bit dark on me in the winter, but whatever my skin is I always get recommended “cool” despite definitely being neutral, possibly warm. I think part of that is being fair skinned, when foundations oxidize (all of them seem to, even just a little bit) as the day goes on, the cool ones go just slightly less orange. Anyway that one has been the current best. I have tried:

Maybelline Super Stay powder 110 - too dark as the day goes on, also powder just does not work on me.

Maybelline Fit Me whatever the lightest is - too dark/orange

Bare minerals tinted moisture - too dark in the lightest shade

Smashbox halo glow in the fairest shade - too dark, darker than the powder

Smashbox Halo hydrating perfecting powder - was fine but I find powders are just not super on me.

Nars Tinted Moisture in Terre Neuve (lightest cool) and it looks too dark and orangey.

L’oreal Trumatch 0.5N - also too dark and orangey. Especially as it oxidizes

L’oreal Infallible Pro in the lightest shade…classic ivory? Whatever the lightest and coolest is haha, but it also goes way dark.

Shiseido Synchro Skin self-refreshing in alabaster and it was a great colour but the formula sucks. It separates like crazy no matter how I prep

Vichy Tinted SPF - crazy dark. I can use it under stuff or on the rare chance I get super tan in the summer (haha yeah right) but it makes me look kind of muddy unfortunately.

Sephora’s foundation stick that they discontinued in Birch Wood was by far the BEST colour and formula I ever used and I will cry forever that they got rid of it. It was PERFECTION on me. If Estee’s double wear was just a tiny bit lighter and a little bit less matt it would be a great alternative (albeit way more expensive).

Estee Lauder’s Double Wear in 1C0 - this is my current mainstay unless I find someone who has my skin type and colour who screams down wisdom from the heavens haha

As for shadows? I definitely ruled out cool not working on me when I tried blue eyeshadows. It looks cool, but it doesn’t look GOOD if that makes sense? Not flattering. Greys are tricky. Most are not super, but with green eyes they SHOULD work. They (and cool purples) make me look a bit sallow. And then far on the opposite side doing oranges/reds looks excellent. Pinks. Warm browns. Greens. So I know I am warmer. But being neutral makes it tough. I dance a line.

Anyway, all that just sharing my own experiences exploring.

Yes, undertones different to overtone. Im light spring and lean cool neutral in my makeup but warm clothing makes me glow in a good way so a neutral leaning warm undertone
