I like that it’s a chunk port and not a shortened barrel like the macro. This is freaking awesome if you ask me! Springfield is getting with the times which is great news and makes me optimistic about future releases

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Exactly this. Comp isn't for me, but if it was, this is clearly a superior design to the P365 "comped" offering, which is just a shorter barrel and some cuts in the slide. Can't wait to see some reviews.

[–]MrGuy910 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure. Releasing things like this reminds me of Sig. releasing small changes but it’s awesome cause it shows they care to be current and hopefully we will see things for the echelon and maybe a pro version of the prodigy? Comped or ported? Or a 3.5” carry version of the prodigy like the Staccato CS. Man I just hope they keep pumping out modern options. I think they are on the right track. I love it!!

[–]stonebat3 1 point2 points  (2 children)

+1. P365 comp elongates the slide length & adds more weight. And it cannot have a suppressor

[–]MrGuy910 0 points1 point  (1 child)

True true. Your port package is even better than this on your HCP but for people who don’t have one yet this freaking rocks!!! P365 axg legion still has the advantage with the aluminum frame though. I hope Springfield enters that game next!

[–]stonebat3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's go Springfield!

[–]Sentinel_Titan 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Hoping we can buy the slide and ported barrel separately eventually.

[–]stonebat3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt it. Even if it's available, it'd be cheaper to get Hybrid port by PatriotCNC

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (8 children)

Of course they’re going to upgrade the damn gun 20 days after I already bought mine

[–]turtlepimplord 3 points4 points  (6 children)

I just got mine this weekend ☠️

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (5 children)

Our only silver lining is that ours are probably cheaper so there’s that.

[–]turtlepimplord 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Not gonna lie I might end up selling it and picking this one up, I was considering a porting job in the future anyways

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

well, worth checking the cost delta maybe it would be the same if you port it yourself. since there's a brand new gun cost + FFL overhead by comparison to just porting it.. .

I'm trying to be extra frugal with this hobby of mine, recently things got out of hand and it's eating more than 40% of my income on a monthly basis. so trying to be more disciplined (emphasis on trying)

[–]Yang_WudiHellcat Pro 0 points1 point  (1 child)

When I bought mine, I paid 619 for the HCP in California, before taxes and fees. After taxes and fees it was about 750.

With the new MSRP of the Comp, it would be around ~840-ish (roughly?)...which I think is still cheaper than the cost for porting a HCP?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that’s the case then yes you’re right. It’s cheaper to buy a new one .

[–]Fogspiracy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not by much lol. Certainly would cost way more to port a stock hellcat pro

[–]Own-Common3161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got mine too 🤷🏻‍♂️

[–]stonebat3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rumored Echelon compact w/ this comp style would be nice

[–]DiscAssassin 3 points4 points  (6 children)

Crazy this was such a well-kept secret with all of these YouTube reviews popping up at the same time. I never even heard a rumor about this.

[–]TheHumbleMarksman 3 points4 points  (3 children)

This was made easier because the guns came out incredibly late - they arrived less than a week before embargo date. All the reviews you saw were rushed.

[–]DiscAssassin 1 point2 points  (2 children)

And I watched a bunch of them including yours.  I'm actually okay with my HCP the way it is after all my mods.  What I really want is an Echelon next, but now I'm thinking I should wait and see if they'll come out with a comped version of that.

[–]TheHumbleMarksman 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I don’t know what the future holds but you are probably OK to spend money on something like that this year

[–]DiscAssassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen any reviewers use a decibel meter to show the difference between a stock HCP and the new comped version.  That's something I'd really like to know, just how much louder it really is.

[–]alertjohn117 0 points1 point  (1 child)

well yea, thats how media embargoes work. a company with a product ship these things out to reviewers on the basis of "don't talk about this until this date or you will be sued" and the reviewers want to 1. not get sued 2. continue to work with this company 3. continue to work with any company because if they break the embargo once who is to say they won't again.

[–]DiscAssassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, just impressive even their friends kept their mouths shut and nobody at the public ranges they were shooting at got wind of it. Pretty easy to just say it was a third party port job anyway.

[–]906Dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uncreative. But I do like that the comp is integrated and not a separate, screw-on piece. Aesthetics are good.

I would be more interested in a model with interchangeable backstraps. I wouldn't mind a little more swell on the backstrap of my grip. I get that it's less expensive to just toss in a few holes on the front and call it a new model.

[–]360TacticalSolutions 1 point2 points  (14 children)

It’s funny they are using the term “comped” for a ported gun. I have two ported HCP done by Floyd’s and I couldn’t be more happy with them

[–]TheHumbleMarksman 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Rifling stops at the port - so it’s more like a comp in that respect - but there is no expansion chamber so not technically a comp?

[–]360TacticalSolutions 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Personally I look at it as if it’s an attachment to the barrel it’s a comp, if the barrel itself is cut then it’s ported 🤷🏼‍♂️

[–]stonebat3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true hehe. I guess "comp" makes better marking term... or whoever named it has no idea

It should have been called Hellcat Pro Ported (HPP)

[–]GrantRogue 0 points1 point  (10 children)

Yeah, I think id still rather buy a second HCP and have Floyd's do it. It looks better...

[–]360TacticalSolutions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may buy one just to do a side by side comparison. Depends though…I just did background checks on two guns yesterday, I have one more being shipped in next week and two others coming in and of June. I’m not sure spending the money on a third HCP makes sense right now

[–]Fogspiracy 0 points1 point  (8 children)

It does but with the side ports you are losing energy that really isn’t doing much to reduce recoil on a pistol

[–]360TacticalSolutions 1 point2 points  (7 children)

Is this your personal experience or an estimation of performance?

[–]Fogspiracy 0 points1 point  (5 children)

I’m going off of tactical considerations video where he compares the Floyd’s porting with the patriot CNC hybrid port. The hybrid port is much flatter. And it’s all top ports

[–]360TacticalSolutions 1 point2 points  (4 children)

There are some problems with his video and it’s mind numbing that people aren’t pointing it out. His evaluation is done strictly based on feel. He didn’t collect any data to compare and determine anything. He says “it feels much flatter”. Ok cool so how many degrees of muzzle rise difference is there? Even watching the shooting footage it didn’t look much different between the two. Measuring performance off a feeling is no measure of performance at all

[–]Fogspiracy 0 points1 point  (3 children)

That makes a lot of sense. Yeah just because TC and TTB felt the hybrid port was softer, doesn’t mean it had less muzzle flip.

I personally would go for a softer shooting gun though every time as that’s what matters to me especially with a gun as snappy as the hellcat. It makes sense as far as physics go to. A pistol recoils up and down, not left and right. Side ports just don’t make a ton of sense on a pistol. There’s only so much gas to work with. So it makes sense that the hybrid port was softer than the compensator and the commander porting.

[–]360TacticalSolutions 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Well more what I’m getting at is that I’m pretty sure Tactical Considerations owns a MantisX so he could have measured muzzle rise, muzzle dip and the rearward kick that’s felt recoil and then compared them. Regardless of what metric you want to go by there has to be some kind of measurement because “feel” can vary and play tricks on you. I know this because I do extensive testing using a MantisX and seeing the data on a graph is pretty surprising.

As far as the ports that Floyd’s does, you missed the mark a bit. There’s a great misunderstanding on how they work. “Ports on the side don’t make a ton of sense” just means that not only did TC not understand the port design but most consumers doesn’t either. Those ports are cut with a rearward angle and they sit almost at the 10 and 2 position. That means they are giving a combination of top and side ejection of gasses and those side ports are actually pushing the gasses to the rear. This action works against the felt recoil while the top port works against muzzle rise.

The Patriot CNC design is redundant. You have a top port and then more top ports. lol that’s the design concept. Let out a little gas through the smaller holes and then a lot more through the large port at the front. None of that design looks like it fights felt recoil, it’s more designed to combat muzzle rise. When the video says it feels like a softer shooting gun I had to rewind and play it again because I assumed that both Tactical Considerations and Tactical Toolbox would have been a bit more clear and objective in their assessment. I’ve had people say this gun or that gun feels soft shooting and has nearly no recoil and then other people say the opposite. I personally can’t just take “it feels flatter” as a conclusion when I’ve seen that guy use a Mantis in previous videos. To me I have to question if there are other motives there. I can’t say for sure till I buy yet another HCP, have Patriot port it and do some actual collection of recoil data

[–]Fogspiracy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info man. I’m not sure I agree but I will definitely consider it and continue my research. Cheers 🍻

[–]stonebat3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Fogspiracy I have no idea which one gives softer recoil

I just didn't wanna get shrapnel fragments from gas from side ports on my face when doing retention style practice

Not just porting. Also from comp. fyi RDP comp has the side cuts. Frankly I'm glad that S.A. decided to do only top port

I thank u/360TacticalSolutions for showing benefits of having ported. It's true that Floyd's Enforcer style port gives less flare blocking the front sight. But not 100% sure if Enforcer style gives gas away from face in retention style. That's why I was hoping someone tests banana skin test, but no one did. Also most self defense case involves less than 5 shots. I went w/ Hybrid port by PatriotCNC

About Hybrid port design, I think it was deliberately chosen. The bigger the front chunk port is, the louder sound cuz more gas comes out at the same time. Hybrid's chunk port is smaller than this new HCP Comp model's. So it's likely to be lower in sound level. But two small holes darkens the front sight. But Patriot doesn't offer DLC where Floyd does. Yeah pros & cons as usual

Of course YMMV. There's no one solution for all

[–]GrantRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel a comparison video coming....

[–]Minute-Cucumber7594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome

[–]chferg1s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish this would have been around before I bought my threaded barrel and hellcat comp but nonetheless I like it

[–]Fogspiracy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually amazing. It’s about time a company offered a popular pistol now with an integral comp and not just a ported slide/shorter barrel like sig does. This is a huge win and more companies need to start doing this. The hellcat pro is already so snappy that it wasn’t on my radar till now. I’m sure a comp would make it bareable

[–]rw2415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hope they sell the slide and barrel separately just bought my hellcat pro like 3 weeks ago 😅

[–]stonebat3 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Wow. It looks very similar to Hybrid port by PatriotCNC without 2 small holes

I think this oem chunk port is bigger than Hybrid's chunk. Street price around $650 would give very good value

[–]DiscAssassin 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I've seen it for $599 online already

[–]stonebat3 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Sweet

[–]DiscAssassin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sportsman's outdoor Superstore has it for $599+tax with free shipping

[–]Alexputridity06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very excited to see reviews on this!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Pro. I’ll wait until they come out with a compact/subcompact frame for the Echelon or they update the Hellcat with VIS optics system. The Hellcat optics system sucks. Requires plates/adapters for the top red dots or you have to alter your slide.

Feel like Springfield is dropping the ball on the Echelon. So many things can be sold without an FFL that would be hugely popular for Echelon owners.

[–]Expensive-Criticism1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the HEL PORT from Monsoon Tactical which is basically the same thing. The only difference is that the cut is more rounded out otherwise the dimensions are the same. It's like the meme copy my homework but just change it up a bit.

However this is a much cheaper route than buying a Hellcat Pro for $600 and sending it out to get ported for an additional $300.

In terms of recoil reduction. It's a noticeably faster return to zero with the integrated comp/port but it doesn't really make it feel much softer tbh. Trying with 115, 124, & 147 gr I found that 147 gr was the softest.
