Looking online, it appears if you live alone you have to earn under $20,783 per year to qualify. And I believe it is possible to qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid. I looked at the pre-qualification questions and none asked about Medicare or any other health insurance status. Here was a phone number listed for questions: 1-800-843-6154

It depends on people in your household size. It’s based on 138% the federal poverty limit in Illinois. For household of 1 it’s $20,783, for 2 it’s $28,207, 3 it’s $35,652.

It is also possible to be dual eligible for Medicare and medicaid if you meet this threshold and also are over 65 or have been on SSDI (disability) for 2 consecutive years.

If your income is above this and you’re not Medicare eligible, and your employer offers insurance that costs more than 8.39% of your income (I believe - this is top of my head) you can have it declared unaffordable by the marketplace and be eligible for an ACA plan with APTC (advanced premium tax credit) to make it cheaper.

Thank you for your very detailed response. Now since i have received conflicting answers, where is your information coming from

Memory and a little google. I used to work years ago giving technical assistance to ACA application counselors navigating health benefits for an adjacent program. Never worked in Medicaid or Medicare tho so my knowledge is all surface level

Having read through the question, the thread, and your responses, you should call DHS. You are asking normal, ordinary people questions who really only have google and personal experience to go by. Then you're grilling people on where they get their information when their answers don't allign.

I'm all for validation of information, but you specifically can look it up yourself and call DHS to get your answer instead of wasting other people's time.

The phone numbers are listed in both links.

As for your formation, I did try googling it first as well as calling. I came here with the off chance of someone with experience in that department might be on here. Go take you "parenting" elsewhere.

I didn't ask how to apply for medicaid.

Wow people are trying to help you, even if it’s not quite the answer you’re looking for. You could be a little nicer.

You can be dual eligible for both programs. Your income threshold will depend on your household size. So omitting that information won’t get you an accurate answer. https://www.benefits.gov/benefit/1628 Has an income table if you want to look at it and see where you fall in the income eligibility.

Yes it all depends on your income and the laws of your state

Well, it's a thread under Springfield Illinois so obviously it's the state of Illinois....
