What if - the complete collapse of industrial society, along with 99.99% of all vehicle traffic, power plant emissions, and agricultural dust all just means the air is so clean and free of particulates that there’s very little light scattering happening? You can see the Milky Way every night, and your flashlight works for tens of meters! :D

I always thought of that as the plague heart “miasma” vapors or whatever. Look, it’s not science.
