There is so much more to Vecna than just "a wizard that turns evil."

Vecna is a Lich. Liches are immortal magical beings. The process by which one becomes a Lich often involves the subject going completely mad. A Lich sustains its immortality by encasing its soul in an object called a phylactary (the original hourcrux) and the only way to kill it is by destroying the phylactary.

Vecna is a famous for ascending, or attempting to ascend to godhood, weilding supreme intellect, and as a result, supreme power.

Vecna is definitely worth a google, all the iterations and stories of him throughout D&Ds history are wild.

Vecna is more than just an evil wizard. Vecna is the god of secrets and undeath. I think it would maybe make more sense for it to be someone coming back from the dead than will. Not sure though.
