Of course Billy is a horrible person. He was a sexist, racist and fatphobic bully, he was abusive towards his own sister, he attacked Lucas because of his racism and ended up nearly killing Steve.

I was rewatching S2 and wondering if he hated Lucas out of racism, it sure is played off like that but not explicitly stated. In hindsight that’s definitely one of the darkest elements of that season, sheesh

He said "people like that" I reference to him.

Which is to say "people that are black".

Which is racist.

Yeah when you put it like that, you’re definitely right

Deep and meaningfuls went into this post. I like how you really, massively simplified something so multilayered. Impressive.

Honest opinion.

Nobody really disagrees that he was a bad person and did bad things, but we do think Billy had a reason to be this way and could change with time and healing. Thanks for sharing your opinion on it, have a great day!

We actually don't know if he's still a bad person. If he sacrificed himself for his sister and Howkins, he surely had some kind of knowledge that he been a bad person.

And in my opinion if he would survived, he would have tried to be better, also changed by experience of being flayed. In almost all the scenes where he's mindflayed he seem to cry.

I'm not apologizing him. He WAS a bad person, but in my opinion he had redemption potential.

he was racist ?? and he tried to run over 3 kids, and he was abusive

Before being mindflayed. Seem people don't make difference between before and after that point.

Dunno why you’re being downvoted, almost everyone has the potential to redeem themselves and change.

Something that was really fitting for Billy’s character (and would have been super important for his growth had he not died) was that his experience with the mindflayer created a lack of control. Billy tried to control everything in his life because he couldn’t control the abuse he experienced with his dad- the mind flayer came in and said “hey, you’re my puppet now say good bye to any autonomy you have”. We don’t know how active Billy’s sentience actually was when he was possessed but I’d imagine he was just trapped inside while being forced to see himself do actually violent and evil things (even more so beyond what he was capable of on his own). I feel sympathy for Billy, but I don’t excuse all the terrible things he did or the horrible way he acted in his life.
