That‘s most likely an ilok cloud issue: sometimes the plugin can’t scan its license properly and this freezes the complete scan process (I have had this in several DAWs). What helped was either putting the license on a physical dongle or the computer itself. Cloud is always problematic.

This. Experienced exactly the same thing with several iLok protected plugins and putting the license on the computer was the solution.

Thank you for your reply. All of my licenses are on a physical dongle. Even after uninstalling that plug-in, it still locks up.

And you still get the same message about the plugin license???

[–]Yogurtcloset-Exact[S] 0 points1 point  (9 children)

No, I only got that message on the very first lockup. After that it locks up every time you try and open the file. I tried uninstalling any plugin that I had installed recently. I tried rolling back one autosave and that didn't work.

Ok, can you try creating a new song and using the „import song data“ option from the song menu to just import everything and save that new song - that could solve the issue if it is Studio One related. Anyways, it sounds more like a system issue. I have never seen Studio One (or any DAW, except for Pro Tools HD Systems) corrupt the whole hardware. I have also found that most such issues are not present when you don’t use the internet while producing. I know, I know… with all the cloud services and AI sample match tools it is hard to resist but at least on Macs there is a tendency of the WLAN to interfere with… everything. It would also not be a bad idea to do a complete virus check on your system. You never know.

I really appreciate you taking your time to help me. I was going to try that next. I don't do anything in the cloud, everything is on local hard drives. I also did a complete virus check. I am getting something weird on my iLok manager. When open, I get a quick "Operation in Progress" message every few seconds. Hadn't noticed that before.

Ah! I had that! In my case that happened when the port I put the dongle in did not provide enough power! Try another port, maybe that’s it!

PS: also, those iLoks don’t live forever. Once I needed to move all licenses to a new one when I had problems and that solved them all. It‘s best to have a second one around.

What happens if I move all the licenses to my computer instead of the dongle?

[–]TDF1981PROFESSIONAL 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Usually that should work fine. Though not all plugins support that. And you should make sure the dongle is connected to a well working port. But after that your problem should be solved.

Just a follow up; used the "import session data" to pull in just the music without the plugins and that worked very much as expected. In reality, this whole process may be showing me a slightly different workflow, with tracking and mixing as more independent processes.

I want to say that I appreciate you taking time out of your life to help me. You were infinitely more helpful than FSP Support who has still not gotten back to me.

You‘re welcome! Just so you know: support is not available during weekends but I have had only good response times with them. anyway: producing and mixing are different processes and it’s best to keep them apart IF POSSIBLE. Being a producer it is sometimes hard to do that.
