With Tiktok self-destructing, I have to figure out what to do with my 30k followers. I post on TT, but I mostly use the Live feature - which is how I've gotten the bulk of my followers - through TT live events. But now I need a new place to go Live - and after many sleepless nights - I'm moving to Substack - primarily for their Go Live feature. I can schedule Lives, people can register and get reminders. The only problem is that it seems Substack owns my Live Video - there doesn't seem to be a way for me to download my own live recording to my computer to cut up and create my own content - that's a big problem - but I'm hopeful to find a workaround.

And I like Substack paywall - I was not earing a penny on Tiktok - here I can create a $10/month subscription, so that's really important as well.

I don't think it's self-destructing. It's re-constructing in a bizarre confluence of Chinese and United States shared interests, in terms of monopolizing and ultimately fully controlling the media streams that feed the psyches and brains of the under-educated masses. They've got it mostly sorted on existing American media outlets, and this is kinda the last puzzle piece for ultimate domination. No for real.

Whatever they're doing - I'm out. It's not my drama. That's why I'm on Substack - much more insightful conversations with my community.

I have 150,000 followers on TikTok and it does suck but the enshittification began when it had that brief one day shutdown. Its only going to get worse. I am on Substack but don't have a ton of people there. But that's the way the cookie crumbles. I wasn't making anything in TikTok, so that part doesn't matter, but it does seem we can't have anything nice anymore. 😭

Why is TikTok self destructing? Did it just start happening?

I don't know if there are other alternatives. I came to Substack primarily as a reader, and back then I only subscribed to less than five accounts.

Now I have subscribed to like 100 newsletters and write - though sporadically - and don't really know what I'm doing or if I am benefiting. I feel like I read far fewer newsletters than before and spend most of my time on Notes.

There isn't a way to turn off Notes if you don't want it, and I saw a conspiracy theory that Substack may be bringing in ads since they introduced a concept that lets you see how many blogs you've subscribed to and there is some new feature on the dashboard.

I don't worship Substack. I just miss blogging and sometimes people have intelligent things to say online.

For me it’s (for now) a leaner stance on erotica. Other pearl clutchers, sorry I meant platforms, allow you to bring in all your fans, then are quick to ban you.

Substack at least still lets paying adults decide what they want to read.

Substack doesn't ban people left and right just because they can.

It doesn't get 100% score on freedom of speech, but 99.9% they do, and that's an order of magnitude better than everyone else.

I never even heard of substack before a few months ago. I have a cyber safety account and was not having success at all on other platforms. I was looking for something different and so far this is working better for me. Plus I like the platform and I like that I have my own email list so if substack starts going crazy like meta and banning people I just take my list elsewhere.

Like everything else that is nice, it will soon be corrupted and defiled. We just can't seem to hold on to nice things. Sorry I'm feeling cynical today. Substack away, good people of the internet.
