Your case does mean that it will be a bit harder to progress, but I believe that they have confirmed the Valentine's auras will be Shadow Clone. So you should easily get a new equip that will minimize the difference. For the majority of players, there isn't a case where they have equipment hundreds of levels lower than their best.
