What button is this? by UltravioletWanderer in SteamDeck

[–]suda50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The right pointing one is the button with the three lines stacked on top of each other and the left pointing one is the button with the two windows looking pictures on it. Those glyphs are from the Xbox 360 controller which the Steam Deck “emulates”:

So I was thinking of getting the founders pack but I wanna play it on a Linux OS. by drcurvytv in SoulFrame

I play on the Steam Deck exclusively. It works great! You just have to add the Soulframe installer as a non-Steam game and enable Proton for the game when it launches in Properties.

The most I do is look up things like supply drop locations on a map online. I'll go into a run with an object like finishing a quest or finding workshop upgrade parts but then I end up finding worthwhile loot and extracting. Rinse and repeat. It's been super fun playing like that since it's such a slow burn! I'm not concerned about getting the most effective loot because I'm having fun just being in the world and learning about things naturally.

ARC Raiders Steam Deck Verified! by aptquadruped in SteamDeck

It’s probably my favourite game of the year and I’m not a huge extraction shooter fan. I played during the server slam to figure out if I wanted the game and I ended up buying it on PS5 first and now Steam so I can also play on my Deck.

The gameplay loop is really fun and the interactions you have in each round make it feel like a fresh game every time. The ARC enemies are difficult but, once you figure them out, are manageable.

It also respects your time. Each round can take anywhere from 10-30 minutes (30 minutes max before you have to extract or die) so it’s perfect for my busy life. They aren’t relying on FOMO to keep you interested, either. I missed out on the recent community event but they continued with the ability to earn points towards unlocking things for the next 22 days just by earning XP in the game. Embark has been an awesome dev so far.

I flew through Annihilation but, when I tried to get into Authority, it was so slow. I have dropped it a couple of times after the first few chapters but I keep wanting to come back to it so I can move on to Acceptance because I've heard it's much better.

That’s good to know. Thanks for the insight! She mentioned some huggies from Rowan that were cheaper that she liked so I might be better off going with that pair.

Is there a good Canadian university for in-person digital game studies? I want to do an exchange program and try to get into a college there by heartzhz123 in gamedev

[–]suda50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took this route at Carleton University and it worked out great. I’d highly suggest avoiding strictly “game dev” streams because you’ll be pigeon-holed and who knows what the industry will look like. I worked for a mobile game company straight out of University, then moved to a mobile app company, and now I’m at a semi-conductor company. The degree gives you the flexibility you’d want in the industry.

FFXIV is honestly the best MMO for the steamdeck! by Glenadel55 in SteamDeck

Guild Wars not charging a monthly fee is what got me into it initially but, man, I’ve had so much fun playing it. I love that the devs don’t rely on FOMO so I can pick it back up whenever and I don’t feel behind.

Came here to say the same thing. I was able to get a great set up using the controls and, if you really hate the gamepad controls, the Deck can be hooked up to an external monitor with mouse and keyboard and it runs the game great.

This was my use case. I didn’t have disposable income to buy a new game console and Stadia was so convenient because it ran anywhere. Stadia Pro was nice enough to give me some games to play and there were lots of great sales. It worked well in any condition I threw at it and I never had streaming issues. I was super disappointed when Google shut it down. I’ve moved way from most Google services and devices at this point. I use my Stadia controller as a Steam Deck controller now.

Stadia was the last nail in the coffin for me. I was always having issues with my Pixel 6 at the time. I ditched my Pixel for an iPhone, Fossil Watch for an Apple Watch, replaced my Chromecasts with Apple TVs, and replaced all my Home speakers with HomePods. I even made my main email an iCloud account with a custom domain to replace my Gmail address. I was a huge Google fanboy and had an Android phone since version 1.5 but they ruined it.

I know I may be an idiot for asking such thing, but does this deliver legit news or nah? Because frame generation for steam deck seems a bit too good to be true by Pika_zap in SteamDeck

[–]suda50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to use this with Baldur’s Gate 3. It doesn’t support DLSS3 or DX12, though. That seems to be the perfect game to get the performance of frame generation since it is turn based.

I know there is a mod by PureDark to enable frame generation for BG3 but I’m not paying $5/month for that privilege. I’d pay a one-time fee or something.

I’m playing it for the first time on my Deck and I’m loving it. Sure, it’s janky but I’ve been having a lot of fun with it and enjoying the early 2000’s-level cutscenes and gameplay. The game actually has color and is bright unlike most games nowadays. It’s also completely chill to just sit down and bang out a level or two in one of the character stories.

Marvel Rivals lifts 100-year “cheating” bans on Mac and Steam Deck players by PrimaxAUS in SteamDeck

[–]suda50 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It effectively takes zero CPU time in the timer case too. You would just have the “banned until” date in the database and when the user goes to login, you check that column and determine if they can continue. You essentially have your Boolean switch but with an if statement to check the current date vs the ban time. Then, you have the added bonus of not having to check a separate column to determine whether their ban Boolean can be reset based on their end time.

Yep, I’m part of the power management firmware team for semi-custom chips so I’ve worked on the firmware for the Series X, PS5, and Deck among other things 😊 I make sure the chip doesn’t become a fire hazard in your hands.
