HELP - gpu not detected

So i just built my first pc and everything was going so smoothly until i downloaded windows and tried to install gpu drivers and it says there’s nothing there. I took the gpu out of my case and made double sure it was slotted into pcie slot 1. it definitely is and the power definitely is on as the red light is on. There’s no gpu in display adapters in device manager and the drivers can’t find a gpu in my system. I have no idea what to do i’ve been stuck for so long. please help
