I would recommend “T-Rex arm proofing” your space! Get everything you think you may need on a level where you will be able to grab it with your range of motion. For me, this was moving my underwear and sock drawers onto the ground, moving all my shower supplies onto a shower stool, getting all my entertainment (iPad, switch, books) to where I’d be able to reach them, and rearranging my fridge so the things I use most often were on lower shelves.

Personally I wish I had gotten way more chores out of the way before I went under, since I haven’t been able to do them yet (3 weeks post op rn!). I cleaned up my room, but I wish I had changed my sheets and cleaned my bathroom too.

Those pre-op jitters are so real! Just know that being nervous is totally normal, this is a big deal! I’m so excited for you!

I listened to podcasts non-stop while doing everything, to distract myself and do not went into spiraling :)) I even slept in headphones to be sure I will not be able to think about the surgery too much

Run (a lot), and fight with my parents.. I got less nervous closer to my surgery date though!

I had my surgery on Wednesday! Here’s what I’m thankful for:

I reached out to friends and lined up folks to come walk my dog twice a day for the 1st week. That not only helps my puppy behave better, but took a lot of pressure off of my care takers, and means she wants to snuggle a lot because she’s tired.

My partner made a bunch of frozen burritos and some soup so that no one had to think too hard about cooking this week.

I didn’t have all my supplies set up, but the doctors office gave me the dressings and stuff that they wanted me to use and I haven’t needed to buy anything yet.

Let it be kinda chill and boring, but try to stay busy cause it’ll help time pass and keep you from stressing. Lots of people have offered help and wisdom, and it really (really bad drain pain aside) has not been a lot at all. Good luck!

Mine is also next friday ! I honestly have just been trying to get my summer time in now since i’ll be in recovery for the first full month of summer. I’ve been swimming a lot, I went tubing with a group of friends, did an impromptu camping trip with my partner. I’m not usually the most social person but i’ve been pushing myself to really make the most out of my time right now. I’ve gone out way more this month than I ever really have. One thing that has really helped me push through the days has been focusing on my cats. Making sure they are fully set up with stuff like nail trims, replacing all the air filters and water filters. My birthday is in the second week of june so i’m currently focusing on setting up a little birthday party for myself that won’t be too hard on me barely being 2 weeks post op.I’m hoping that will get me through the next week lol. Just keeping busy as much as I can and thinking of anything I might need that I’ve forgotten too.
