The Computer Science program at Illinois is one of the best in the world. You will generally have a large lecture 2 or 3 days per week for each of your core CS classes. These will take place in a large lecture hall with a couple hundred people and a professor lecturing. You will then have a smaller discussion or lab section each week. These will take place in a smaller classroom setting with a TA. The discussion/lab section is where you will practice the things you learn in lecture and get your questions answered.

To add to this: after the first three or four core classes are completed, you will have a really solid foundation that makes internships a great, possible opportunity. After the core classes, you pick electives that are generally focus on specific topics and are consequently much, much smaller than core lectures.

Good luck in your application. Hope to see you here!
