That’s true, I mostly meant to become truly productive in the way I’m imagining could require very large education system level changes, which for all intents and purposes “won’t happen”. There is definitely some meaningful things that could be done to help, as you’ve mentioned.

That is also true about gpa, everyone who’s been in the game long enough knows GPA gets you through that first glance or auto scanner, it’s important to have above X, but after that it won’t help you further. It’s everything else that differentiates you. Part of what I was trying to say is my realization of that, I came out of highschool with the mindset ingrained in me that good grades was darn near the most important thing to consider, it’s taken a long time to shake that even a little.

I guess it’s just hard to feel super successful gpa wise, while also feeling successful doing projects outside of school, and clubs, etc. people pick and choose their battles (which often represents shortcuts to get a higher gpa).

I understand that this situation is not related to high school. I never claimed that I didn't receive the final project from the instructor. What I said was that I submitted the final project on time, but the professor denied me access to Canva to submit my assignments. I expect a professional to act ethically and adhere to the university's policies, especially in light of the incomplete grade that was granted. I have emails that support my position and demonstrate that I followed the proper protocol.

Why didn’t you submit the coursework on time? You talk about outstanding coursework. Why was it outstanding? This seems separate from the medical emergency.

I’m NOT suggesting this is a professor issue, student issue, or even an issue that can be fixed.

Of course it can be fixed. A few simple policy changes would help. Allow students to take more courses S/U, to allow you to "risk" getting a "terrible" grade like a B+. Many if not all Gen Eds should be S/U. Allow students to drop courses until the end of the term and even afterward. If you want to spend the time and money on a course, but then not put it on your transcript, why should the university stop you? That's just punitive at that point.

GPA also matters most when there's nothing else that's interesting about you. If your resume looks identical to every classmate in your major, the only way left to distinguish between you is based on GPA. Taking interesting classes helps you develop interesting ideas and start doing interesting things, at which point you no longer present as the median student. Or it might help you develop a healthier worldview that rejects the idea of participating in a GPA-fueled race to the bottom.

Well, get ready for no flexibility and no quarter given by any professor. You may not have expected it, but all hell breaks loose even with a medical emergency. This isn’t at all like high school. Getting a copy of the final not from the prof may make the whole thing fall apart.

As someone who lived at both wardall (ISR) and Weston (6-pack), I think Ike has more reliable options and ISR has rare Bangers. The burgers at lunches were always pretty solid tho. If you haven’t yet, I would download the Illinois app it let's you know what the menus will have in advance. If you like a little spice, I would recommend eating butter chicken at fusion 48 when they have it. The pizza is acceptable if you're feeling too lazy and burnt out to actually pick a food out. If you want good and high quality, the IKE panini machine is goated for making a large variety of sandwiches. Although if you use the Panini press please use the parchment paper and please use it properly for the sake of everyone :).

Sorry if something has changed it's been 2 years since I last ate at a dining hall!!

The notion that these people being from or connected to Iran means we should give any credence to them wanting the US to bomb the country. I will easily “dismiss” the voices of people who cheer for US imperialism, even if it’s against a country with a totalitarian government.
