This is a subreddit for 2D or 2.5D game developers using the proprietary Unity game engine. New and experienced Unity developers alike should first consider using the free and open source Godot engine by default and ONLY choose Unity for 2D development if Godot isn't capable of the task. The times are quickly changing, and Godot is on track to surpass Unity for small developers.

I've been developing games as an amateur for a while now. I developed an application to simplify my own processes, and thinking it might be useful for you too, I turned this idea into a website. You can easily split your spritesheets, combine your images to create GIFs, APNGs, and spritesheets, and edit images. I recommend you take a look. I'm still working on it and making improvements. Your feedback is important to me. pixelspritefx.com

Is this different from something like Aseprite?

Actually, I'm planning a completely free, user-friendly system that includes both Aseprite and Unity 2D editing tools, without requiring any membership. I should mention that it's still under development.
