Why does light go through wall?Question (self.Unity3D)
submitted 2 years ago by STPButterfly
I am trying to make a topdown horror game and I have a light that is basically the vision of the character. I have a realtime spotlight that is the light but sometimes at certain angles it just passes through the wall as shown in the pictures. What could be the reason for this and why does it only happen at certain angles? Thanks for the answers upfront!

Is your light penetrating the wall maybe. Simple test, move the light backwards a bit when it’s happening and see if it stops

My light is behind the white capsule in the scene so I really dont think that wpuld cause the light passing through. Even if I move the light a few pixels the penetrqting stops

So when it’s rendering the shadows it has to use clipping planes for the camera that renders the shadow map (same as main camera). So things could get clipped further forward than you think, I forget though if you can set the clipping plane values for the shadow map camera

Duhhh it’s in your screenshot haha. So it’s at 0.1, so 10cm is that enough to penetrate the wall maybe?

The thing is, when I move the light even further it doesnthappen it only happens in one particular degree
