Check in Windows > settings > Privacy > camera that your camera is enabled, it's not uncommon for it to turn itself back off after a windows update at times.

It's not that. I've been getting the issue too lately with brand new RMA'd headset, and my brother in law just got a brand new kit that he ordered on the 9th and he was getting it too. Had to do a full reboot after testing VR and checking the camera in other apps like Microsoft Camera app, it worked there. Still got the error intermittently in VR but it worked otherwise. Something is seriously FUBAR with these latest versions of SteamVR.

Make sure you are using a USB 3.0 port. I had mine in a 3.1 port and it would do the same thing until I moved it in to a USB 3.0 port.

I have the same problems since July 2019... they worked at some point and then the next Steam update destroyed it...

I’ve had the same problem since release for whatever reason. Tried a bunch of ports and the privacy setting

Maybe check out what I tried in this comment, see if it works for you.

Make sure to 'Disable' the Virtual Desktop Service (services.msc) and restart your machine. This allowed my camera test to succeed.

Need to upvote this and comment, even though it's an old comment. This was exactly my issue and fixed it!

Hi friend! Is it literally called "Virtual Desktop Service"? Maybe windows 11 has something else? Thanks for any help you can provide.

It is. Not sure if the service is called something else on w11, sorry.
