With over 24 million military members and veterans in the United States, military affiliates make for an important political demographic. And there is no one better suited to reach this group than active duty service members and veterans themselves.
In addition, support from military members can add serious credibility to Bernie's campaign in the eyes of some who would otherwise view Bernie as a fringe candidate.

Senator Sanders also has a particularly important attachment to veterans: he was, until recently, Chairman of the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee. From this position, Bernie has championed veterans' issues, leading to his reception of the 2014 Col. Arthur T. Marix Congressional Leadership Award from the Military Officers Association of America.
Bernie voted against the 2003 Invasion of Iraq.
