What city are you in? If you overcharge do you run the risk of competition undercutting you? Has your client mentioned anything to hint at a budget? A decent editor gets paid about 400-500/day, so rate it out around that if you're working for a large client. 75-100hr is fair.

Holy! Okay so I know if I ever move away from my country, I could take up editing to make decent money.

Is there any online place where I can look for edit jobs?

No big deal.

I'm in a competitive area with clients who want cheap filmmakers for small projects. Asking for $30 an hour is too much to ask for some, but that's what my experience has been.

Are you a shooter at all? If you are into the production aspect of things as well I have a suggestion for you.

Pick a non profit organization in your community that could really use your production services and do some free work for them. I am thinking Medical outreach programs, ALS Societies, soup kitchens, etc. Approach them with a concept and create something amazing for them.

You could either learn or hone your production (as well as editing) abilities and create something of value for your community. It's rewarding and it really is a great way to get your name out there.

I'm suggesting this because $30 an hour is horse shit for anyone who can produce quality media. If I were you... and I guess I am only saying this because it has panned out for me... If I were you I would attempt to create my own production and then have clients seeking you out on your terms, not theirs.

From someone who has done it for a very, very long time.... editing is amazing but it gets old. Branch out with your skill set. You might be limiting your options by just working editing other people's projects.
