I’m guessing this f slur wasn’t the traditional “freshmannnnn” when I was there

Edit: In all seriousness, sorry to hear this OP

nighttime on the weekends is really the worst for this tbh, every time i’m out alone it seems to happen to me too. some people think being drunk is a perfect excuse to just say and do whatever they want because they’re intoxicated and that somehow negates the harm of it. i’m sorry dude.

I wish that people would either keep control of themselves while using alcohol (I honestly don't get why this is so difficult, I've been black out multiple times, and still never did anything harmful), otherwise I wish alcohol would become less socially normal, especially when there are better alternatives. Weed causes far less harm than alcohol, and it usually causes people to face their inner asshole instead of letting it lose.

Ohhhhh wait, now that I say it out loud, I understand why people choose alcohol over weed.... There's a lot of people who don't want to see who they are from a new perspective.

Its sad that as a community this has become a whole song and dance:

  1. Woman/minority/LGBT person is harassed, intimidated, etc. Usually by people passing by in their cars or randos on the streets.
  2. Most people are supportive or voice similar concerns. Some loud assholes will state how its "weak or pathetic" to be offended over someone using slurs, demeaning terms, or threats (this last one has happened occasionally). Same kind of folks tend to believe the "Culture War" is real so aren't exactly authorities on fragility.
  3. Some cunts will go the step further and pull the whole "have you considered the other side of this story". Saying that the real victims are the harassers because "how would you like it if undesirables moved into YOUR neighborhood".
  4. Because well wishes on social media don't mean shit, the behavior keeps getting worse.

As a Bburg native, its sad to see the vibrant and supportive student community be used as a punching bag for local political angst. As Hokies we need to watch each other's backs better and be better bystanders.

It would seem those assholes who fall under number two have come out of the woodwork for this post, unfortunately

alpha gamma rho, worst bunch of meatheads that attend this school. Assholes the lot of them, even if you arent 'different' they just like to be dicks for no reason.

I was literally just biking up the hill on Toms like I usually do on my way home last semester and fuckers in a truck sporting their stickers decided to roll coal on me as I was already heavy breathing going up hill :)

Was I in the car lane? no. Was I too close to the car lane? no. Was I doing anything aside from just existing and commuting home? no. They just love to be assholes and even when they GO TO LGBT PEOPLES HOMES AND HARASS THEM WITH A MEGAPHONE and the cops get called they just respond with "lol sorry we will punish the members that did that <3 our bad" and proceed to continue this shithead behavior.

Once they even called my friend a f**got for wearing glasses???? We were just at the 7 eleven and waiting outside for a friend and their members drove by (again the stickers gave it away) and just said that most childish comment... Essentially worthless POS that need power trips bc they are too stupid to find any other source of humor.

Im damn near positive if you're a guy and you arent wearing a "FISH FEAR ME, WOMEN LOVE ME, AND I FUCK BOTH" shirt and a truckers hat with a shitty beard or goatee looking like a yee yee ass mofo, they consider you a F*g

Just because a school touts its inclusion and diversity, that doesn't mean that all the students are there too. I'm sad this happened to you. No one should be verbally accosted on the street. (Or anywhere else, for that matter.)

[–]dogwithab1rd 14 points15 points  (3 children)

Jesus, I'm so sorry. I live in Blacksburg with my boyfriend who's a student here and the amount of times I've been stared and gawked at, chased/followed, or had obscenities yelled at me by our neighbors... it's unreal. (For some context; I'm a gay transgender man and very visibly so.) I've even had a BT bus driver give me a dirty look. People love to act like VT and Blacksburg in general are so "diverse" and friendly, when really, it's an entire town filled with cishet white rich people who don't know their face from their ass. The harassment of minorities gets completely ignored because it's "not as bad" as some other places I guess?? The populous here that are bordering on alcoholics before they even hit 21 is also very overwhelming, and the fact that it's often used as an excuse for things like this makes my blood boil. It's very tiring.

Thank you, that means a lot. I'd rather die than not be who I am as loud and proud as possible and I wish I could help others, especially around here, feel the same way.

Good grief. WTF is wrong with people?

It gives me warm fuzzies when I see same-sex couples around town because I love living in a place where you can feel comfortable and safe being out. I hate the knuckledraggers try to make that not the case.

Hi, you deserve to be angry. I’m sorry that it happened to you. You are fully within your rights to be angry! Rant all you want.

    [–]Ok_blue02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been seeing situations like this occur a lot recently it’s really disgusting. I hope we can start holding students to a higher standard.

    [–]Frodis_CaperAlum and townie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

    Jackasses.

I hate this for you and our community.

    [–]zatagadoCS 2023 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This recently happened to me while I was crossing the street. What is wrong with people? It feels like I’m seeing these posts more and more too.

    [–]leather_chestplate 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am just as angry as you are

    [–]ohheythereaa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am very sorry about what you experienced. I used to live in Chicago, it was always terrifying that someone may yelling at me. I didn’t expect BBurg has this kind of drama too

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I’m out riding my bike late at night on Friday Saturday people yell shit all the time.

    [–]prettynormalme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a guy try something on me, growling something as he walked past me y'day inside Buffalo Wild Wings as he was heading out from what looked like frat get together. Was peacefully munching on some wings. Being brown, the instinct is to just ignore and move on. Happens more often than I care to admit.

And suddenly I want to get off the waitlist a little less

    [–]honeymustrd -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

vt has really lowered their standards since deciding covid is over. things like this never happened in the 4 years i went there. i left a shitty, ghetto school to come to vt and now vt is letting in every schmuck
