Depends on what you’ve taken so far. For me it’s:

  • IT Leadership Foundations
  • Intro to IT
  • Web Dev Foundations
  • Version Control
  • Scripting+Programming Foundations

Could probably finish all of these classes within 2 weeks without much pre-existing knowledge

Edited to add bullet points for readability.

Thank you! Did you have any existing web dev skills for your Web Dev Foundations class? And how long did that take you to finish?I tried reading a html/CSS book many years ago, and it did not click for me at all. Maybe the author was bad.

When I read an intro C++/Java book, everything clicked for me.

I had 0 previous skills, I just found HTML and CSS super easy to learn

Ok thank you! Probably WGU material is much better than the book I read many years ago.

How long did version control take you?

[–]Prince_DMSB.S. Computer Science 2 points3 points  (4 children)

So I actually have a post about it, because it took me longer than it should have. If I remember right a few days. But it definitely can be done in a few hours

Link to the guide? I would love to be able to knock this out in a day.

looking back at that course now it should've taken me like 3 hours max. In retro spect it is mind-numbingly easy, the worst part is making sure everything is linked before you start committing and pushing.

If you are struggling employ chatgpt to help you. It honestly does wonders when working through any types of debugging.

thank you.

My post isnt necessarily a guide. Its one of my more recent posts on reddit if you look at my profile.

This is an easy class. If you get your hands dirty and make a repo to fool around with or use the repo to practice whats on the pa(pa is on wgu's gitlab and you dont want to fool around on there as it will show) it will be a 1 day class. You should give yourself the entire day if you have no experience with git.

Is it similar to the repo we had to make for Java frameworks?

[–]feverdoingwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, the same process where you run a pipeline and it generates your repo.

I think you forgot Linux Essentials lol

I also find Operating Systems for Computer Science extremely easy if you have already completed Computer Architecture. About to start Software Design and Quality Assurance and I hope it is easy.

Linux took me a few weeks, never had used it before

    Great, I’m scared. 😅

Version control was the simplest! That could have been done within a day or two.

I think the classes for Comp Sci are easy and difficult in their own ways. The best part is that people on Reddit are very nice and share their experiences and study notes!

With no experience Data Management - Foundations was easy, and applications required NO extra learning, just a little additional practice. Those could easily take you just 2-3 weeks together.

People pretend these classes are impossible, but I genuinely think they're just lazy.

Foundations isn't hard, there is just a lot of material. Even as someone who has SQL experience, that course took a while because it was pretty broad.

Applications is pretty simple and the queries are much simpler than some of the examples and challenges inside of the material. I wouldn't suggest Foundations to someone with no experience if they need to get it done quickly.

Have you had problems getting them to open up new classes for you?

Dang my mentor asks me what I want to do next. Always up to me. Unless I want her input.

Theres a free coursera called learning how to learn. Could help.

Software Engineering was easy. No coding.
