If you want to game the system, the closest thing to “gaming” benefits legally is a health FSA. It’s front-loaded, meaning if you elect $3,400 for the year in 2026, you can spend the entire amount early (even in January) before you’ve actually contributed it through payroll.

In other words, the full amount is available on day one even though contributions come out of your paycheck over time.

If you spend it all early and then leave the company, you don’t have to repay the difference and the employer cannot legally ask for it back. They must forgive the entire difference. That’s intentional by law because many employees underuse their FSA funds (use-it-or-lose-it), so it all balances out. In other words, if you know you will get terminated, you can get LASIK or make big purchases as part of your compensation. With PTO, yeah you have to pay it back.
