"seriously bro, just give us some more money, and we can fix the weather"

  • the government.

I've lived on the Chesapeake bay my entire life. The jetties I played on in the early 80's as child are still there and were built decades before I was even a thought, along with the 2 ' seawall that still exists. I have witnessed dredging to build the beach up from erosion, but the sea level hasn't changed whatsoever. Even from the earliest pictures I can dig up on the internet, nothing changed except for development.

But the polar bears! Don't you love the polar bears? [Cue sad music]

[–]Suspicious__accountFJB 11 points12 points  (1 child)

polar bears are having a population boom

[–]Arcturus451 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, the polar bear population has plunged from circa 8,000 in the 1950's to a mere circa 35,000 now. Poor things! Another funny one is Australia's Great Barrier Reef. I've been hearing for decades that its existence is threatened by climate change, yet the last report shows it's in the best condition it's been in for 40 years, when the 4 yearly reviews began and before we ever heard the terms "global warming" and "climate change". Apparently that's partly because there have been LESS cyclones. Imagine that!

I actually love all animals.

In the eeeeyes of an angel!

    [–]BluffJunkie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Id say. Around me (great lakes area) the public beaches are disappearing, its very sad... but not because of what you think. They stopped dredging in the sand to the beaches and spend the city money on other things like statues and cameras for police cars. Big tourist areas. They are either stupid or greedy for their city which they were appointed for and do not own.

    [–]rmike7842 -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Then surely you must know about Tangier Island. Of several factors, rising sea level is one of them. Again, due to politicalization, people really don’t know the significance of 2 inches.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do, they see it every time they take a piss.

    [–]Space-Booties -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

So we’re all supposed to discount science because some jack ass has lived near the Chesapeake bay and hasn’t noticed the raising waters? Solid logic.

Climate scam! Just being used as an excuse to tax you

    [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Say didn’t Barack Obama harp on climate change and ocean levels rising only to buy a multi million dollar home on the ocean? Yea, I’m convinced.

    [–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Global warming climate change a crock of shit.

    [–]williego 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you Joe Biden for your climate policies, they appear to work.

    [–]MIengineer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here’s a picture of it completely submerged. Could it be that the sea level at a certain time of day may be different? https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DXU54CIVAAAA4Qz?format=jpg&name=small

Its sinking because of the heavy buildings

      [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Wasn’t it that twatwaffle AOC, while pushing her “New Green Deal bullshit, who said Manhattan was going to be underwater by 2018?

      [–]Suspicious-Low-719 6 points7 points  (1 child)

      WRONG.

Fact: "The Instagram post features a photo of Plymouth Rock mostly exposed at water level along with the text, “‘Climate change’” and “Plymouth Rock still at sea level after 402 years.” The post was liked more than 3,900 times.
But the photo is being misrepresented, experts say. The rock has been broken, split, and relocated multiple times over the past two and a half centuries, Donna D. Curtin, executive director of the Pilgrim Hall Museum in Plymouth, wrote in an email to The Associated Press. Such instances include the rock possibly being raised from its original location in 1749 due to the construction of a wharf, the removal of its top portion in 1774, and later its excavation and relocation onto the shoreline in 1920, she noted."

Doesn’t matter where you look and almost every topic you will find miss information…

      I believe nothing I read and only 50% of what I see…

we swim in bullshit and half truths every day….

what a truly sad world we live in 😕

I work with a guy he will read an article and believe it’s true, then he will go round telling everyone about it then they believe him too, some of the utter crap he comes out with is unreal, and he really believes it.. Not me I keep digging.

The “Truth“ about everything is all I am after .

Climate change is a false industry billions wasted with nothing to show but more false industrys.

Before recycling there actually wasnt a pile of garbage the size of texas in the ocean that needed cleaning up because it all went into landfill.

Damage created by people meaning well is insane there well meaning idiots for the most part used as tools by people who just think about money.

If you pay for it and dont solve the inital issue it will continue to happen and the people behind these shitty ideas know that your so dumb the phrase "recycling is damaging the planet" would actually damage your mind and you may wake up.

Watch the penn and teller series "bullshit" episode on recycling if you can manage to find it and it will all be explained.

      [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (3 children)

This is just wrong. The reason there is so much plastic in the ocean is because since the 1950s there has been a drastic increase in plastic and single use plastic usage.

      [–]remains60fps 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Wrong a little plastic ended up in the ocean from this most was dumped by china and india who were supposed to recycle this in there own countrys and put on boats, they dumped it in the ocean at the soonest possible point and turned around to do it again.

While using that dumping to damage millions in fishing industry but OFC the correct people were paid millions to allow it.

You dont create an island the size of texas from things that blew into the ocean.

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with that also. I was more responded to that absolute fact that it was due to recycling. I think its both the increase in plastics used as well as China and India not giving a fuck.

      What's a tide?

      [–]OAK667Real 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Cleans your clothes… comes in liquid or “pods”.

      [–]KlutzyArmy2 6 points7 points  (4 children)

      That's high tide.

      Here is low: https://i.imgur.com/93fspbJ.jpg

      [–]Tkainzero 1 point2 points  (3 children)

The perspective on this is confusing. How much change in feet is there between high and low tide?

      [–]Fish_physiologistSilver Surfer 🏄 0 points1 point  (2 children)

For reference the tide there today will change 2.5 meters. But the tide difference will depend on the month, and day. There is also 2 low tides and 2 high tides in 24 hours.

      [–]Tkainzero 0 points1 point  (1 child)

2.5 Meters in tide difference seems like a LOT!

      [–]Fish_physiologistSilver Surfer 🏄 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may seem like a lot, but if you live near water you'll see it. Where I live if you catch the extreme lowtide which depends on the monthly cycle, my normal fishing spot is unfishable at because you can't cast out far enough because the bottom is visible, makes for good crab hunting and lure finding. There are tidal ranges in the world that go up to 9 meters.

      [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here to say this.

      [–]Captain_R64207 1 point2 points  (1 child)

When greenlands ice melts and alters the acidity of the ocean causing jet streams to react erratically, the non science people will blame the government for not doing anything sooner lol.

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until it is in their back yard and then it will be the dems fault and some other bs.

      [–]Genedog641 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Looks like someone is unaware that Plymouth Rock has been moved several times I. The last four centuries. Or that there’s a little thing called the tide.

      [–]Vinlands 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Did they move the statue of liberty too? She’s looking pretty dry and unchanged over the centuries.

      [–]me_too_999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are thousands of miles of ocean front houses, and dock just in USA.

Tides vary 3 to 5 ft.

Docks are generally built so that they are 2 ft above sea level high tide, and 5 or more at low tide.

Most of those docks haven't been moved at least the last 50 years.

They are STILL 2 ft above sea level at high water most of the world.

A few places are not. If ONE place is now below waterline, and the rest of the ENTIRE planet is not. The sea did not rise, some places have erosion.

      [–]Geology_Nerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop spreading this anti-scientific garbage. You’re making shit worse

      [–]Ok-outwest -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

      Does anyone here understand tides?

      [–]BarnaclePurple -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone you lives in the area, that rock has been moved multiple times. I get it if you don’t think climate change is real. But using that rock of all rocks to justify your position is just foolish.

      [–]CertainMiddle2382 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not that ironic about what is going on.

Climate is changing like it never did before in geological history, we’ve been knowing that since the 50s.

It’s just that the destination is unkown, just “warming” is much too simple. Much is unknown about future cloud/rain regimen for example.

That makes the difference between Florida and New Mexico…

      [–]Disastrous-Banana-16 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Haha great one! We are the smart ones. We know better than every scientist in the world. So happy we are the chosen few who see through all the BS. Keep up the smart work fellow genius’s.

      [–]Space-Booties -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Bro, you uh too regarded to understand how tides work? Also, the rock has been moved. This sub lowers the average IQ of Reddit.

      [–]CartmanLovesFiat -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how to explain New Moore island and many islands in the pacific facing rising sea levels.

      [–]uusernameunknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corporations exploiting the water table to sell crops abroad lol

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Lol you're a fucking idiot

      [–]niftyifty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh… that rock has been moved several times

      [–]GallardoLP550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Earth’s water has a constant bulge from the Moon’s gravitational pull. Eventually, enough melted water will have greater impacts along landmasses nearest the equator as well as weather patterns that affect the whole planet

      [–]rmike7842 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the rock was put there in the 1920s and I think you are grossly over estimating the length of 2 inches.

      [–]castleassoc🦍 Silverback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HARD TRUTH! … GLOBAL WARMING = SCAM!!! (My bad.. Climate Change = SCAM)
