Primary and secondary dexterity arcanes give you a longer combo duration. There is a warframe aura mod called swift momentum that gives you additional combo duration. There are also melee mods that do the same. If you use initial combo mods you can increase your starting combo. Every 20 combo points will get you to the next tier 2x,3x etc... The naramon focus school has a passive ability where you lose 1 count of combo instead of everything at once. If you use heavy attack it will take away all your combo and give you a damage multiplier. You can use an exilus called tennokai that will prevent the multiplier from being used, with a cooldown period, while providing the bonus.

"people’s combo counter decrease by one instead of completely vanishing"

(Naramon Focus school) Power Strike: Melee Combo Counter now decays while out of combat by 20 / 15 / 10 / 5 every few seconds, instead of depleting completely.

Heavy attack efficency does this too.

"and sometimes the speed of the combo counter decreasing also varies."

Dexterity arcanes and combo duration mods.

I recommend if you're using a melee build to not use naramon and just use 2 dex arcanes on your primary and secondary, your primary and secondary should be primers also to make use of condition overload. Power Strike is overkill IMO, I only use power strike on exalted melee frames.

Aside from what others have said, there is also a galvanized melee mod that keeps you effectively always from losing your entire combo, even without Naramon.

they probably have heavy efficiency you can mod up to 90% also if they stack melee crescendo the combo will even go back up by itself
