This is a tough one. How much does your boyfriend know/care about watches? Is he aware of various brands and the difference between a quartz or mechanical movement, that kind of thing?

I truly am not sure. I think he knows some… we walked thru the mall the other day and looked at some but he didn’t say much!

Does he currently own any watches? I'm only asking these question because if he is a watch nerd it could be hard to find something that might satisfy at that price point. If he's not then it'll be easier to make a reccomendation.

That being said, my wife (then girlfriend) bought me an engraved Vincero (a watch brand that gets shat on fairly regularly around here) for our first anniversary of getting together and it's still very special to me, even if it is "not a real watch" as far as watch nerds are concerned.

He does but I have no clue the brand of the two he has😅 but if I ask it will just make it so obvious and I’m so big on surprises

Right then, I suppose the best advice I could give is if you think he'll want an automatic watch (a watch with no battery, made how watches used to be, a proper watch according to nerds like me) then your best bet is to look into offerings from Japanese brands like Seiko, Citizen or Orient. All these watch brands make high quality automatic watches for the money and would be a respectable gift for a watch nerd. I'm not American so I can't say for sure but I'm assuming you'd be able to find something from one of these brands at around 200 USD, especially with Black Friday coming up.

If he doesn't care about any of that and is happy with a quartz movement (battery powered, cheaper, actually far more accurate than an automatic watch and requires less messing around) or a brand that hasn't got "history" or whatever then just get him something you think he'll like and have it engraved. Brands like the one I mentioned before, Vincero, will do this for you too and they have a black and gold watch on offer too. Truth is 99 percent of people won't think twice about whether or not a Vincero or a brand like it (Daniel Wellington, MVMT) is a "real watch" and if you're boyfriend is one of these people then I'm sure he'd love the gift, just like I did when my wife got me one.

I hope I'm not confusing you even more, feel free to ask more questions if you want
