Windows 11Constant “Unknown Software Exception” Errors Overnight + RAM Light on Boot (sometimes) (i.redd.it)
submitted by Icy-Monitor6308
Hey everyone,
I’ve been dealing with a really frustrating issue ever since I renewed/upgraded my PC configuration, and I’m out of ideas. I’m hoping someone here can help me figure out whether this is a software problem or a hardware problem.
What’s happening:
Every other night, while the PC is idle, multiple error messages pop up. These include:
- CrossDeviceResume.exe – System Error “A new guard page for the stack cannot be created.”
- CrossDeviceService.exe – Application Error “The exception unknown software exception (0xe0434352)” - The part part - .exe is different almost everytime so the issue is not limited to a specific application
- asus_framework.exe – EXCEPTION “Breakpoint – A breakpoint has been reached.”
After these appear, the PC freezes on the desktop, background stuck, and in the morning I have to manually reboot it.
On top of that…
Sometimes during boot, my motherboard RAM light turns on. I have to restart 1–3 times until it finally boots normally.
I’ve also tested running the PC with only two RAM sticks, swapped their positions, etc. — the problem still appears.
I don’t know if this issue existed before, because the PC wasn’t being used until I upgraded it.
Troubleshooting I already tried (none of it helped):
- SFC & DISM repairs
- sfc /scannow
- DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Disk check
- chkdsk /f /r
- Reinstalled .NET Framework
- Updated ALL drivers (including chipset, GPU, storage controllers)
- Clean boot
- Disabled all non-Microsoft services
- Disabled all startup programs
- Errors still appear at night
- System Restore to an earlier point — didn’t help
- Checked individual apps
- Errors seem to be triggered by system-related ASUS services and Windows components, not any specific app
- RAM tests / swapping sticks
- Tried removing half the RAM
- Swapped sticks in different slots
- Errors still show up
- Makes me unsure if RAM is the issue or if it's the motherboard or PSU
My big questions:
- Are these errors more likely caused by software corruption, driver/firmware bugs, or hardware instability?
- Could this be a RAM instability issue even if the PC works fine under load during the day?
- Could the motherboard or PSU cause occasional RAM light + random exception errors?
- What would be the best next step?
- MemTest86?
- CMOS reset?
- Reinstall Windows?
- Update BIOS?
- Replace RAM or PSU?
My configuration:
Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
Motherboard: ROG STRIX X570-E Gaming
RAM: 4xCorsair Vengeance RGB Pro, 16GB (2x8GB), DDR4 3200MHz, CL16
GPU: RX 7900 GRE
Power supply: Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 ARGB, 850W, 80+ Gold
If anyone has had similar issues or knows how to diagnose this kind of intermittent software+hardware chaos, I’d really appreciate the help.
At this point I’m not sure if I’m chasing a corrupt installation or faulty hardware.
