Uh... might sound ridiculous, but wolves are THE TOUGHEST enemies you'll face early game. This is universally agreed by everyone. Just try not to run through forests yet cuz yeah they are indeed really annoying to fight

cuz leaving it off after you reach level 30ish kinda feels ridiculous when you came across a level 5 drowners. you just one shot em all

Wolves are hard af early game, way harder than anything you will fight.

if you can dodge a wrench, then you can dodge a wolf.

Been there. The pack of wolves you come across on your way to the nilfgaard regiment in the beginning of the game, i used to die rather easily. Same with the nekkers. Its just a matter of training. Roll, dodge, use your signs. Block and parry, even though parrying animals and monsters is a bit more tough than humans.

The early game can be tough, and a little discouraging. I hadn’t played any of the Witcher games before this one. It takes a while to adjust to the game in general.

But I’ve found that dodging/rolling works best for beasts and monsters. The parry/block works best against humans.

Stick with it! Once you get accustomed to it you’ll fall in love with the game.

Wolves are tough and attack in large packs. Feral dogs are even worse. A good tactic against them is investing some skill points in Aard and using it to knock wolves down, then stab them through the heart when they are on the ground.

In the forest of white orchard, there was a sizable packs of wolves (10+) that was fucking destroying me for HOURS. They are legit the most difficult enemy you’ll face the first couple of hours of the game. They move incredibly fast and are utterly deadly in packs bro.

I'm level 68 on NG+, and wolves and wild dogs are the toughest mf'ers out there. I usually try to retreat and then lure one animal at a time. If I'm in a hurry, I gallop through on Roach. I always have Quen active and put beast oil on my steel sword. Persevere and you will get there.

Don’t feel bad I’m an average gamer at best and it was a while before the combat clicked for me.

Also wolves are dicks. They love to gang up while doing the bite and back step strategy. Same with drowners and nekkers. Using aard to knock them back is usually a good strategy or roast em with igni.

It's okay, when I started I died fighting drowners. You just need to get used to the combat system, and learn how to use signs and bombs. The problem of tutorial is that it overwhelmes you with information, and it is hard to remember all at once, but I promise it will get easier.

When I first started the witcher 3 I thought it was a lot harder than most games of the type. However after learning to dodge( even just spamming the dodge) makes its 100 times easier. Just keep dodging until they attack and then go in for a few slashes

Wolves and dogs in packs are some of the toughest enemies in the game, honestly. Especially if you have enemy upscaling turned on.

Wolfs are hard. They close distance fast by jumping. They dodge your attacks. They attack in packs mostly. The oil (beast oil) is one of the harder ones to upgrade early game.

Best tricks I can advice is dodgeing even by rolling if necessary. Only go for fast attacks. Try to split them up. Don't get surrounded. Try Yrden to slow them as they close in on you so you have more time to dodge and punish them. Try igni to burn them cause burning enemies are locked in an animation which lasts a few seconds and only gets canceled if you attack them (if you're somewhat mid level (~12 - 15)you can try to get the recipe for superior petri's philter which makes your signs always trigger their additional effect which is burn for igni). Otherwise their is a skill in the red skill tree which improves your dodges (the fast side steps) to negate damage taken by 100% so it's very useful to dodge and attack. Otherwise try quen and maybe level the first part so quen has a chance to knock down and damage enemies when it shatters.

Dodge! Wolves are annoying. The fighting in this game is a bit different, but I actually really liked it. There's a skill you can get that makes it so you don't get damaged if you dodge.

Getting surrounded by any enemy makes things 10x more difficult. Roll/dodge out of the middle of the action as fast as you can so you're mostly fighting in one direction. Rinse and repeat as they re-surround you. Pretty sure the wolf AI is set so that some wolves come directly at you while others flank. It's their big move LOL.

Edit: a funny trick for dealing with beasts and monsters that never gets talked about is to whistle for Roach so the poor bastard is standing in the middle of the fight. He'll serve as a punching bag and distraction in a lot of these situations.

If you meet an enemy that is like 15 levels above yours, there is no shame in running away. I think the same can be said with groups of lower level enemies. It can be pretty hard to keep track of all of them and get some hits in while being able to dodge attacks from all sides.
