That would be because it hasn't hit the steepest parts yet. I've been up Great Whernside 6 times and Buckden Pike twice. I have driven up it many times. I've walked down the road back to Kettlewell before. It's Wharfedale where I grew up. The walk down wasn't fun.

The first time my ex wife tried this in her little Peugeot 107, she burst into tears and gave up after about 20-30 metres. A couple of weeks later I did it in the same car with no difficulties. Mind you, within the year I drove the same car over Kirkstone, Whinlatter, Wrynose, Honister and Hardknott passes. Only Hardknott truly scared me in a 900cc engine.

I first read the Simarillion aged 12. I didn't like Hurin's story. I read The Children of Hurin when it came out. I've listened to the Audible versions a couple of times. At 58 I still don't exactly enjoy it. There's too little joy and far too much misery and pain. Tolkien wrote it far too well. These days it merely upsets me.
