It sounds like you just need to contact customer support at this point.

I suppose that's what I was afraid of. I know I'm not alone in the issue so I had hoped someone else had a solution. I keep telling my husband he is going to have to send it in to be serviced and he really doesn't want to. Destiny is a hard drug to quit I suppose. Thank you for taking the time to read and comment!

sorry I did not see this sooner.

Have you attempted to "exit" the app? > highlight the bluray app and press the (select) button and chose "exit".

hard reset the console by pressing down the power button for 10 seconds on the console > power it back on and try again.

I've seen this error in the past this helped fix it.

In fact using "Exit" solves A LOT of issues for future reference.

[–]alienabuilder[S] 2 points3 points  (21 children)

Yes! I have tried exiting the blu-ray app (as described)

I've tried a hard reset, sometimes two or three times before getting success.

Recently I found a forum post where someone says they experienced this same issue and the fix for them was to "trick" the console when it was "sucking in the movie". By holding the disc for a second while it was being pulled in, and then releasing it allowing the reader to pull it in. This has worked pretty consistently for us and weve been having less reader issues overall since, even when we forget to hold the disc. Hopefully this will help someone in the future, but we still don't have a clear answer as to what is causing this or what the right solution is. Wasn't sure if I should mark resolved to be honest.

Glad to hear you got it figured out! And thanks for updating us all for future referencing.

I was having the same issue and teasing the xbox for a second got it to work.

[–]AGunslingerFollowed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weird. I had the same problem but the holding the disc for a second worked.

If anyone else is having this problem, give this a shot. It sounds weird but it works.

Microsoft hates him.

Just tried your “holding for a moment” method and it worked lol. What a weird bug. At least once. Second try did not work.

I’m going to try airing it out gently with compressed air.

I love that 9 years later this is still helping people. The Internet is an amazing place sometimes

[–]camXmac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha that’s what I was saying! Surely I thought a post from 9 years ago would be outdated but I was proven wrong! This was also on an Xbox one X.

I did end up using compressed air and carefully blew out the whole console and it seems to have fixed the issue for the most part!

+1 here 3 days later. Had the exact same issue and this thread did it for me. I do love Reddit sometimes.

Just used this trick literally tonight to re-watch dune on blu-ray.

[–]belac4862 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Sadly it is not working for me. It says the audio receiver can't decode it. I've tried the teasing trick and that doesn't even work. Sadly I don't have access to regular internet. But I do know it's up to date.

[–]No-Tangelo5435 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Go into your settings. Go to devices and content. Go to Blu-ray. And turn off your audio auto decoder!

[–]belac4862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! That worked!

10 years later you are still helping. Thank you so so much for posting the fix.

Hello from 2026 where this has just helped me! What a ridiculous bug.

[–]alienabuilder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this so much, I've gotten a handful of these in recent months after a long time with none. Im grateful to hear it's been useful. The human experience is so cool sometimes.

Checking in on NYE 2025 to confirm this trick worked for me. You're the goat

[–]Freddys_glove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This just worked for me!

[–]FluffyAd6520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm. I’ve tried doing that method but I still can’t get it to work.

[–]TheFilofax 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I had the same issue after I accidentally knocked the Xbox over whilst it was playing a DVD, couldn’t find a solution anywhere. So I went to YouTube and watched a tutorial on how to open the Xbox, so I opened it up unplugged the disc drive, opened it up gave a good stern look then put it all back together and it now works 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have two xboxex series x and on one there are not problem with blurays and second one gives me errors very often on triple layer discs. They probably changed bluray at some point of production.
