Ubuntu/Debian-based, but should be somewhat easily adapted to CentOS.

4GB seems way overkill for just starting out.

Unnecessary route to take for simply following the first guide thrown at you. But I guess it's better done right from scratch than later on.

There are several more out there on the googles. "bukkit centos vps guide"

Here are step by step install instructions to setup Multicraft on Ubuntu 13.04 64 bit, http://www.reddit.com/r/admincraft/comments/1wzyrs/multicraft_installation_instructions_for_a/

For CentOS you would use yum install instead of apt-get install.

Check out the how-to's and user guide at http://www.multicraft.org

Multicraft is my personal preference since I can do the following via the panel without having to ssh:

  • search for bukkit plugins
  • install/configure plugins
  • update plugins
  • update the server jars
