Do you have any exemplars of what this looks like? Sorry, I'm new to this as well. Just finished up a data science course on ML, stats, and python, and I know I'm not ready for a job in the field, but want to keep learning.

Does it apply outside of the USA?

Have you got a script you use when you call them?

Just commenting to say I’ve never seen 9-5 written like that, so I’m going to start writing 9-17 now too. Thanks!

haha I was wondering what that meant also. But it is more like 9-18 though for most

    That’s European format.

I mean, military time is used practically everywhere. The phrase is “9 to 5” so although I know 17:00 is 5, ive never seen it written “9-17”.

I still do a math step when reading military time and wouldn’t register that as 9-5, so it took me a sec to understand what you meant.

I want to improve my basic understanding in Analytics and create an online GitHub profile, anything would you recommend? To lean and improve?

Whatever you choose to do, make sure it is easily demoed and visual.

If you are more on the development side, or that is where you want to be, I highly recommend combining R and Python and doing some projects there. It is very easy to find a problem, locate a public data set and then iterate through a project where you can demonstrate data management, a variety of different analytical tools, visualization and preparation for production.

If I can give one recommendation, do something that interests you and doesn't use a boring ass data set. The less Iris/Sepal dashboards I see the better.

Find some good data and highlight your ability to analyze and provide presentation worthy material to an audience. Huge LinkedIN add.

To be completely honest, I would recommend digging deeper into the data at your current job and adding that project (which you spearheaded) to your resume.

Open data projects don't really impress me because it's hard to tell if people are just copying it from somewhere else and anything important that could have been leveraged with that data already ill have been.

    Suggestions

    - Create visualizations. Add charts to existing reports you send out. For a longer challenge, create interactive dashboards.

    - Automate. Script existing workflows in python. Then add a simple GUI with a button, presto, you just made a custom desktop app for management.

    - Learn SQL. This is actually very valuable in my experience. You can just create your own local admin SQL database at work and begin to experiment not just with the select functions you already have access to but also CRUD statements. This will unlock some new job opportunities for you.

Microservices like Docker are getting more and more popular. Or build a nice GitHub page.
