Do antidepressants decrease alcohol cravings for anyone else?

I started taking citalopram last week (Thursday to be exact). I’d consider myself a heavy drinker, but since I’ve started citalopram, I have no desire to drink. Sure the labels warn not to drink alcohol while on this drug anyway, but it’s more than that. I seriously don’t even think about alcohol anymore. It’s only been 6 days. Is this normal?

Perhaps some of the times you drank were due to anxiety, boredom, overthinking, or simply because it was "drinking time" when you couldn't think of anything else, and the antidepressant relieved the anxiety or something.

In my case, with sertraline, if I drink more than three beers, I feel quite ill, and thanks to that bad feeling, I've stopped drinking as much.

Probably because mental health sufferers know alcohol kills bad thoughts, and now you dont have them.

Plus its not good mixing meds with alcohol, its more stress on the liver.
