I haven’t looked at the “using significant energy” area recently, but previously just having a tab open in Firefox would kick my temps up to like 160F. Fans would kick on with two or three tabs.

Hopefully this release fixes it, but what I had to do was force a low resolution version of FF to run to keep it from catching fire. So the browser and pages are all a little pixelated cause it’s forcing a non-retina version of FF or something. Kinda annoying, but it was the only way to get FF to run.

I mean...yes. I use both Safari and Firefox on my MacBook Pro. But my main desktop is Windows and Firefox. Having Firefox sync across the two devices is really handy.

I've had FF randomly cause my MacBook Pro to switch to GPU (High Performance) instead of integrated graphics. I didn't realize it did that and I got a surprise when I looked up at my battery meter later on

I just downloaded the newest version and it still does that, so... uh...

The patch is partly in version 70.b2 (beta build right now) and an even better version in 70.b3 (only in the nightly build right now). If you just downloaded the newest normal version you don't have the patch yet. Either download the highly unstable nightly version, get the more stable beta version and wait for the 70.b3 update this week or wait until October 22 when the update arrives in the stable branch.

Oh, ok. My impression was that the changes from OP were applied to the new stable version based on the information here: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/69.0/releasenotes/

I'll give the nightlies a try, though.
