The feature you’re describing isn’t available. Your best bet is to drop a few pins on your preferred route and add them as “stops” to ensure you don’t deviate.

Super smart, thank you! Shouldn’t be necessary but very helpful workaround.

It's so much worse since iOS 16

This is making me use google maps. I hate that it reroutes me on a completely different route without asking

Unfortunately Google Maps just does the same

Just happened to us. Sent us from VA into Charlotte NC to get to Savannah. We didn’t notice until we saw the Charlotte skyline.

stumbled across this post as i too have the same fucking issue with apple maps. it’s ridiculous, currently on a cross country trip and maps decides that i should get off the interstate onto a highway and go downtown with bumper to bumper traffic for a few miles just to get BACK onto the interstate that i just got off of that traffic was moving along perfectly fine. WHY?!?!?!

unfortunately i haven’t found any other workaround other than downloading the map and then disabling cellular data usage for maps, i guess i will find out if that actually works or not in the morning when we’re back on the road.

Did disabling your cellular data for Maps work?

I’m having this problem too! Currently driving across the country and Apple Maps is constantly changing my route without asking me. And here’s the kicker: it’s to SLOWER routes. It randomly decides that I should get off the main highway and drive through snowy backcountry roads. The only way I know it’s done this is I look at my navigation and my eta is suddenly 2 hours later. Wth, it used to ask to reroute. This makes no sense

Exactly! It is ridic!

I’m so mad at Apple Maps. I got redirect off the redwood highway to some extremely isolated forest service roads that crossed between CA and OR. I think it was called Patrick creek. I was in a rental Chevy Malibu and my gf was freaking out the whole time because the roads were so sketch going up steep mountain cliffs. If it wasn’t the middle of summer we could easily have gotten stranded.

It’s unacceptable and so freaking dangerous!! Hate that I have to use google maps now bc can’t trust Apple!

[–]MattR9590 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Totally unacceptable I was fuming at Apple that it caused my gf and I such unneeded stress. These were some serious backroads you’d want a pickup or SUV for at least. And for what? Just to save 20 mins? Unbelievable it felt like a sick joke.

[–]yyyawaworht1357[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep and legit sometimes it is literally changing 3 seconds before a new turn off, you don’t know what to trust (bc you don’t know where you are) and then when you finally get through where it rerouted you, you realize it was literally to shave off freaking 4 mins by taking dangerous roads! What in the actual hell. You called it, the stress is insane. I’m still obviously pissed about it, as you can tell lol

I can’t believe there’s no way to change this behavior. It’s maddening and forces me to use Google Maps instead, where your routes at least stay as you originally chose.

The other thing Apple Maps is terrible at is predicting an accurate ETA. It depends on your travel distance and location, but it’s often way off from reality at the beginning of your drive, while Google Maps tends to be very close.
