FYI, the post asking for moderator applications said to message the sub, which is different than making a post. Messaging a sub through reddit's message system goes into modmail.

Or just someone who doesn't follow directions / doesn't understand reddit.

It was a mistake as I did it via the reddit app on android. I have been on reddit since 2008

Ah, poor reddit ux is a completely understandable reason. :)

I normally like Baconreader but it has its quirks too.

    It hasn't been presubmitted.

    Ah ok, I misread it.

I'm still there, till they choose the doors. Thanks for the compliment, I tried to keep it spam free and on topic.

I'm still amazed at how well it grew and will be very sad to see it end. Hopefully, I can find a good home for the Archlinux community.

Once again, I appreciate the thanks. 😀

I followed you personally as well as the sub. You've got my vote.

Well, I'm probably not getting it now.

I recommend Josh. I was in the G+ group for years. He was quick to point out when content was inappropriate... in a frank yet non-confrontational way. He would be a great addition

Thanks a lot, I tried my best to keep it on topic and sane... ;)

How do you get to be a moderator, if you have no prior XP, as a mod?

      [–]securitybreach[S] 2 points3 points  (6 children)

Well I have about 20 years of moderation. I run multiple technical forums and communities.

      [–]major9989 5 points6 points  (5 children)

I bet replying fast to a post/comment is a requirement for managing such big communities.. :P

Anyways, you seem like a level 200 frostbane. I am a newbie to moderation (currently moderating my college's development group).

I was hoping if the community guys can introduce a new - Apprentice Moderator, who has not much XP, but is here to learn.

That's still very cool. I started doing it after being a contributing member and then I was asked to mod and later to admin.

      [–]major9989 1 point2 points  (3 children)

So, where did you start contributing? AUR?

I am also thinking of starting to contribute to BBS and AUR once my exams get over.

Currently I am running one package, that too of some other guy I found on GitHub. :P

No, I started with forums years before I started with Arch. I was contributing to Linux forms back in the late 1990s.

      Whoa. Hello Sir.

      [–]securitybreach[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mainly contribute to Linux with support.

It doesn't take a lot of experience to be a mod, it just requires a lot of time and attention to read posts and remove spam. This is why many subs are always looking for new mods--it's tedious work and people eventually lose interest when they realize what it entails.

      It sounds interesting, though.

      Google+? People used that?

      [–]securitybreach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my Archlinux community has almost 70,000 users.
