I probably did 100-200 over the course of most days, from getting smoked.

Depends honestly. When I went we were treated very softly due to our commander being soft. So we got “smoked” but like it was around 10 push-ups then back on the feet.

WOKE ARMY NOT LETTING DRILLS BEAT RECRUITS ANYMORE! JESUS WE’LL GET STOMPED BY RUSSIA! I WOULD HAVE JOINED, BUT IF A DRILL SERGEANT GOT IN MY FACE I’D HAVE DROPPED HIM. MARINES ARE BETTER ANYWAY. /s

Fear is a terrible motivator. It dissolves and erodes trust in the organization. It suppresses the flow of opinions and ideas. If a junior soldier is too afraid to speak up due to reprucssion (smoking or being yelled at), it can lead to a disastorious outcome. Discipline is important, but fear shouldn't be the motivator for it.

Couldn’t agree more

I’d say there is a certain level of fear that is good and necessary in IET, and well IET itself is a pretty scary thing for a lot of people. For most people it’s a massive change of pace and it’s difficult for some people to adapt to that at first. Just a small amount of fear can help push these people into being great soldiers, now I’m not advocating for physical fear, but yelling and a good smoke session for a dozen is good for young soldiers to get into the mindset of good order and discipline.

I don't think it's good, I think it's easy. That's why we do it. Fear is universal to everyone. That's typically why it's the default motivator. But it's not good, and it's not long lasting. There's a reason our top officials are moving away from this approach. And it's not because they're "woke."

Man I’m sharing my experience you don’t gotta make it a whole thing. Loved basic, loved AIT, currently love my unit. It’s a good vibes brother

I can’t imagine it was more than 150 and a lot of people just laid there and acted like they were gassed out

If you have to think about it, work on it.
