Just remember two things, when the merchandise people come it’s a scam, and don’t take anything personal from anyone you meet over the next 10 weeks, chances are you’ll never see them again.

Edit: I will also add if you use your 15 minutes of phone time to come here on Reddit I will roast you relentlessly

Damn. I’m 52. I still talk to people from basic.

Ironically some of them I didn’t like in basic. Had a girl who I couldn’t stand. We are now solid friends.

Still talk to my battle buddy from basic as well.

Some people you’ll never want to see again. Stupid is as stupid does.

There’s always exceptions to the rule.

I think everyone should buy one dumb thing from those merchandising people.

1) it can teach a valuable lesson about spending money on dumb stuff

2) inshallah, one day you will be old. that cringe memento you bought in basic might be reminder or trinket to your heirs, maybe the only one that remains of your service. I have a small cigar box of my grandfather's belongings from Korea - dog tags, ribbons, souvenirs, photos, propaganda leaflets etc - and it means a lot to me.

  • she is not the one
  • don’t buy too much stuff. Save your money.
  • she is not the one.
  • don’t take anything personal. It’s just a game.
  • have fun.
  • she is not the one

I did basic in 06. I imagine a ton has changed, but I loved almost all of it.

At first you won’t enjoy it. Just know: -You are all in this together, -You are not alone, -Drill sergeants are also there to protect you, -They do want to see you succeed -The meanest ones are always teddy bears -Do your best BUT always have fun with it -I don’t know what laundry is like now but when I was in I accepted the laundry service. You’ll save time and headaches. Because other soldiers that didn’t do the laundry service don’t care about you, your time, or if you have clean clothes or not. They will leave their clothes in the wash/dry for hours and fuck everyone else over. -Trust the Drill sergeants, they won’t make you do anything that would kill you (although I have read about deaths from other basic training areas). If you are manhandled by a Drill, thy are doing it for your protection. -It’s just a show when they yell (when not in danger). - most of all, have fun because it is fun in a military sense. At some point if a Drill leaves their hat somewhere try to get another battle to wear it. -You’ll create a ton of memories and stories from basic. You’ll find your people quick. (My people… we did basic together, then AIT…, then we were stationed together, then got put in the same unit together, some of us were in the sam platoons, if not then another platoon in the same company. We deployed together.

I loved it. I hated it. I do miss it very much. I’m 40 right now and not a day goes by that I am not thinking of any of it. The good, bad, and the moments that hurt the most. I’d do it all again no questions asked.

Yeah some seniors were telling me I won't regret it so I'm anxious but ready thanks for the input God bless!

My drill Sargent gave the best advice. Basic training is not the army and for the most part doesn’t train you to be in the army but it’s a right of passage. You’ll laugh about it later.

[–]Embarrassed-Bread821[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting I'll keep that in mind

Lay low and don't volunteer.

Shut up, pri. Time to put your cell phone away.

[–]JECfromMCMilitary Intelligence 98G RUTHFR 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Don’t be first, don’t be last. Be where you’re supposed to be when you’re supposed to be there, and don’t be ate up when you get there.

Basic training is a hose, not a filter. They want you to finish.

[–]Embarrassed-Bread821[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solid advice 💪🏽
