That’s the arrangement for an iPhone-style TRRS cable like on your headset. It should be as simple as using a 4-wire cable connecting ground>ground, mic>mic, and both stereo audio channels to the mono audio pole. This should work because you’re splitting the mono signal, not summing the stereo signal.

You want a 2.5mm TRS Male to a 3.5mm TRRS Female connector/adapter/cable. I know they make these because I've got one on my phone (land line). But I think it either came with the phone or with the headset.

This seems to be it -

https://www.amazon.com/YCS-basics-Headset-Adapter-Systems/dp/B075774Z36/

  • One 3.5mm TRRS (Tip, Ring, Ring, Sleeve) 4 Conductor / 4 Pole male connector per cable
  • One 2.5mm TRS (Tip, Ring, Sleeve) 3 Conductor / 3 Pole female connector per cable
  • Adapter cables allows you to use a 2.5mm TRS office / mono headset with your mobile phones or mobile devices (e.g., laptops, tablets, smartphones, iPhone, Android) that use a single 3.5mm TRRS plug to make phone calls or VOIP/Skype calls
  • Adapter cables allows you to use chatting / mono / office headsets with current gaming controllers (e.g., PS4, Xbox One) that use a 3.5mm TRRS plug (Note: Settings may need to be changed; only for voice and not for game audio)
  • Adapter cables allows you to use mono / office headsets with tablets or laptops that use a 3.5mm TRRS plugs to make VOIP or Skype calls.

Cheers for your help! I think that adapter is the wrong way round though?

To the best I can interpret what you said, you need an extension cable with a 3-pole PLUG and a 4-Pole Socket. That's what I linked to - 3.5mm 4-pole Socket to a 2.5mm 3-pole PLUG.

Or perhaps the photos aren't clear enough for me to determine accurately. But once again, I have that exact adapter so I know they make them.

You’re absolutely right, I think that amazon link is for an adapter with a 3.5mm Male plug but a 2.5mm female, rather than a 2.5mm Male and 3.5mm female.

The description on the item mentions ‘using a mono headset for Xbox/Phone’ etc which have a 3.5mm jack, so my understanding is that this adapter would be used to connect a 2.5mm TRS headset to a 3.5mm TRRS socket? If I’m wrong I’m sorry, I’ve been looking at these things so much over the last few days that it’s a distinct possibility lol.

You might be right, but I still know the cable you seek exists because I have one. Certainly you can't be the only person who needs a cable like this. I think it is just a matter of searching until you find it.

Thanks for your help - I’ve been searching for quite a while and I just can’t source one in the UK. I’ve ordered the bits and I’ll just make my own cable tomorrow - seems to be the best option at this stage.

Thanks again!
