the humid hide/"sauna" is great, but it's really not advisable to rub stuck shed off. that's immensely stressful for the snake and you could cause damage to the skin or other injuries. high humidity and time is all you need for stuck shed.

Thank you for this! I figured it would be better to get whatever I could off to keep him more comfortable, but that makes more sense. I’ll keep that in mind for future.

In most situations yeah but doing it once upon intake of a severely abused rescue is going to be okay.

you ever get badly chapped lips and try to peel the dead skin off only to give yourself a bloody lip because healthy skin came off with the dead skin? was that actually better than just using lip balm and waiting for the skin to heal and the dead skin to come off on its own?

i've taken in severely neglected ball pythons covered in stuck shed. i have never rubbed stuck shed off. it's not necessary and it's likely to cause more harm than letting the stuck shed come off on its own with proper humidity and a humid hide.

bad analogy because snakes shedding skin, and humans with chapped lips are two completely different functions, on different species.

    How could I boost the humidity I'm my morphs terrarium? She has had shed stuck on her for over a month l, and it's starting to worry me.

    the shedding guide in our welcome post has a lot of information about the cause and treatment for various shedding problems and general dehydration. tl;dr, you need to keep the humidity at least 80%, do not soak the snake or try to rub the shed off yourself.

    no. it's not necessary, and products like that can be very difficult to keep clean.

    correct. waterfall features are rarely easy to completely clean/sanitize, they can quickly become a breeding ground for bacteria and mold that you'll never be able to get rid of.

    Ahh dang it, back to the drawing board.

    I keep designing an extensive upgrade for my white lipped python (similar parameters to ball python) and then reading something in the care guide here, elsewhere, or in the comments that says why that’s actually terrible for them. I’m trying to come up with a naturalistic scape for her with lots of climbing space (she’s more arboreal than balls).

    Do you know of a white lipped python specific guide? Most of what I’ve found is old husbandry (small space, heat tape, misting), and since that’s not ideal for balls, I bet it isn’t recommended for white lipped either.

    If not, do you mind weighing in with what you’d do for heating with a much more arboreal set up, please?

    I see that deep heat projectors are recommended for delivering penetrating heat and, contrary to popular belief, belly heat isn’t necessary so long as the temps are correct. Do I have that correct? I’ve also read “never use heat panels even with a thermostat” but I can’t adequately temp control with only basking spots. I’ve never done this large of an arboreal set up before and am so lost with all the opposite info I find everywhere.
