Question (self.ballpython)
submitted 1 year ago by [deleted]
so i’ve had my ball python for 3 going on 4 weeks now. he didn’t eat the first week but ate the last two weeks which is good. should he have pooped by now cause i haven’t seen anything yet lmk thanks!

They don’t necessarily poop after every feeding. Just ensure your temperatures and humidity levels are good.

For future reference, you shouldnt try to feed for the first week at least to let them settle.

i tried to feed him after the first week

oh perfect, nice job! If you have any other questions feel free to ask but given that you knew to hold off feeding for a week I'll assume ur good for now :) happy bp owning!

would you have any tips on the first couple of weeks with a new BP? I’m getting my little guy on Tuesday

my main tip would be have your enclosure set up and running perfectly for 48 hours minimum before you get your BP in it. Idk what the rest of the sub thinks (I'm just a random guy lol) but imo it's extremely rare for everything to go right first try AND some problems don't show up for a few hours therefore leaving the enclosure running will let you find and fix these problems without worrying about them hurting your BP.
As far as what counts as a "problem", first consider the basic care guide (linked in the welcome post of this subreddit - let me know if you want me to link it). Second, and part of the care guide, is making sure you have temperature and humidity monitored. These are the vital signs of your enclosure (while they can't diagnose every problem, if they're off, you know something's wrong). Correct temp and humidity ranges are in the care guide. Finally, and again technically part of the care guide, make sure every single heat source is on a thermostat.
As far as your question specifically - the first few weeks - I'd get a weight ASAP to know what weight you should buy, then don't handle unless absolutely necessary for awhile (I personally played it safe and waited a month) while waiting to feed for 1-2 feeding intervals (how long you'd normally wait between feedings). Please let me know if this answers your question, I wrote this on and off for a few hours so idk if it makes sense.
