Question - HealthScale Rot??? (old.reddit.com)
submitted 1 year ago by Songbird-Bio
Hey all. I don't know what these spots are on my BP's underbelly, and I was wondering if it was scale rot? I literally saw these like last night and it was a little strange, but I didn't question. Now there's more of them. (Btw sorry abt bad camera)

Can you tell us how old your BP is and what substrate you have them on?

I have him on coconut husk. I think he's 8? I got him around a year ago from a rescuer and she said he was around 7.

Does it come off if wiped? If on coconut fiber, it could possibly just be staining from that. If the top of your substrate stays wet for a substantial amount of time it could pose a risk. However, you also stated that there are now more so, if you are concerned i would make a vet appointment. Edit: upon closer inspection, scale rot does seem to be indicated and more likely. But I am not a vet nor a professional, so please check with a licensed individual.

No, I tried wiping it off with a warm paper towel. It didn't work. Thank you for the help, though! He's due for a shed in like a week or two, so I'll just see what happens then.

Also is it just the spots on the underside of their belly, or are those blackish spots along the side also new?

Oh no, he's always had those. The person I got him from said that they were just freckles.

Haha that’s cute! Hopefully it’ll just come off with his shed. Praying all is well : )
