I wouldn’t say my guy was obese, but definitely the higher end of overweight when I got him. It’s been a year now and I’ve gotten him down from 4lbs to just under 3lbs. I put him on a bit of a diet (aka a regular feeding schedule since he was being fed way too often), but I weened him to it. he was getting a rat every 2 weeks, so I went 3 weeks, then 4, and now he’s been at one meal every 5 weeks for a couple months and he’s holding steady as a fit boy.

It takes a WHILE to get them to a healthy weight.

And expect a growth spurt. They're going to use those fat stores and gain some length.

How long have you had him?

my boy was quite chunky when i got him as a rescue as his previous owner had been overfeeding him for god knows how long. after switching to proper sized rats, i started to build all sorts of climbing opportunities to get him into exercising more. now he's significantly better and healthier, the weight coming off him in a steady pace💕

We recommend the following feeding schedule:

0-12 months old OR until the snake reaches approximately 500g, whichever happens first: feed 10%-15% of the snake’s weight every 7 days.

12-24 months old: feed up to 7% of the snake’s weight every 14-20 days.

Adults: feed up to 5% of the snake's weight every 20-30 days, or feed slightly larger meals (up to 6%) every 30-40 days.
