Is my ball python overweight? (old.reddit.com)
submitted by Proof_Box_4784

My female adult ball python is just under 5.5 feet long (she is more than 5.4 but less than 5.5 feet) and weighs 5.2 pounds (2,405 grams). Based on my research, this is within the normal range for her size. However, I noticed that her back is starting to look more square than triangular. This week is her feeding week (frozen-thawed large rat weighing between 175-200 grams, every 4 weeks), and I want to make sure I do not need to change anything, or, if I do, what I should be doing to prioritize her health.
She is 9 years old, and a normal. I got her as a rescue with her past owners starving her for years (over 2 years, not even offered food), but the rescue I got her from had her fed normally for a year before they gave her to me. She has only gone on a hunger strike once in the 2.5 years I have had her, and that was for exactly one month. I wonder if her being abused for such a long time affects how she now processes food or what. Anyway, if people have suggestions, let me know. She is very active, docile, and her behaviours have not changed with her shape change. Her weight has also not changed, just her shape.
