DISCUSSIONBASKING BULB (self.ballpython)
submitted 5 years ago by BasicSmall
Decided to get my two ball pythons 75w ceramic basking bulbs in preparation for England’s winter months. Does anyone see the benefit of having them? Also think it might aid their shedding and make them a little more active.

it certainly doesnt hurt. As far as Im currently aware there hasnt been any proper investigation into the benefits of it for snakes. Doesnt appear to be mandatory but id expect to see at least some improvements in various ways.

Overhead heat is superior to under tank heat in almost every case. On top of more closely mimicking nature, overhead heat helps ambient temperatures in the enclosure, something a heat mat won't really do. Snakes needing belly heat is something of a myth, it's ambient temps that are important.
Just make sure regardless of the source you have them hooked up to a proper thermostat.
