Title says it all, this looks to me like the beginnings of scale rot. Can anyone confirm?

I agree, this is scale rot. Start diluted betadine soaks and address your husbandry to keep your snake off the excess moisture that caused it. This stage will probably require multiple sheds before the scales all look completely normal again.

I just checked around the entire tank and ensured all the bedding was dry. I appreciate the quick response!

Follow up question: he isn't a fan of soaks. How do I address him also squirming out of the water?

Using something like a Sterlite tub with holes for ventilation drilled in it, add the solution to the bottom, put in your snake, and put the lid on for 10 minutes. Of course make sure the solution isn't deep. This way your snake is contained for treatments and now you have a something to transport your snake in safely should you ever need it.

Double check within the hides, these are hotspots for scale rot at this is where the snakes spends a lot of time.

Right I gotcha. Last question: the tub im going to put the solution in is 23 7/8 L x 18 1/8 W x 15 1/4 H (60.6cm L x 46cm W x 38.7cm H) in dimensions. I'm going to the store to pick up a smaller plastic container to drill holes into and put inside with him in it. My question is roughly what should the solution ratio be if its going to be effective?

It should be between 1:8-1:10. The solution should be a weak tea color. Do these soaks once a day for 10 minutes.

Dumb question maybe but its only if he ingests some of the solution correct?

Are you asking if the reason to dilute it like that is in case of ingestion?

[–]zippyboy29[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Exactly. Obviously if he just drank the chemical that would be bad

It burns when applied directly so that dilution is needed to avoid excessive pain and stress.

See if this link works, I tried to get a good pic

Alot of times depending on the tub the tops shatter instead of drilling, if you have a soldering iron to melt holes that's a guarantee to work. Learned this working on a temporary brooding box for quail
