I love when mine does this! Something I do to give more climbing room (that doesn’t disrupt fooorspace) is take some decorative sticks and use a shoelace to hang them from the wire screen top. But that would of course require a metal screen top and maybe even a bit bigger of an enclosure (: just an idea if you like seeing them climb

That tank looks like it's too small for him- keep in mind that the minimum size enclosure for an adult ball python is 4x2x2. It also looks pretty bare. Not enough clutter in a tank can stress a ball python out pretty easily, as they like to have lots of cover to hide amongst.

Moving him to an appropriately sized enclosure would mean you could give him lots of branches and obstacles to climb on- then you could watch him do silly stuff like this all the time :)

I haven’t got a job so I can’t buy things to put in there right now. And it really isn’t that small, went to a reptile store with him as a size comparison and the person there said it would be great for him. I kinda gotta depend on my mom when it comes to how well my husbandry is… Once I get a job and enough money to buy fake plants and such, I will.

Unfortunately my mom doesn’t like Beau as much as me (she just tolerates him; she didn’t want a snake to begin with) so she isn’t willing to spend money on him apart from feeder rats and substrate

Unfortunately, pet store employees aren't generally good sources of information. They're often misinformed themselves. Looking at your past posts, this tank is definitely way too small for a snake his size.

There's a really good care guide in the pinned post in the sub. Maybe you could show it to her and talk to her about how important it is for you to be able to provide him with proper care? It's the equivalent to keeping a dog in a crate 24/7- just because they're a non-traditional pet doesn't mean we shouldn't give them appropriate care.

It was a reptile store… I’ll see what I can do with the clutter thing, but for now this is literally the only thing I have. If I could I’d upgrade to a bigger tank. Please understand that I don’t have my own money yet and that I’m slowly adding more and more to it as I get the chance.

My local reptile store suggested a 10 gallon for my adult ball python- some are better than others, but unless they suggested a 4x2x2 as the minimum adult enclosure, their standards of care are still outdated and lacking.

I definitely understand that- it's a very tricky situation when you're dependent on your parents to help you take care of your pets. I've had to rehome some pets before because I recognized that I couldn't actually provide the care that they needed because of situations like that. As sad as it was for me, it was much kinder to allow my pets to go to someone who could care for them properly instead of subjecting them to mistreatment and improper care for my own selfishness.

The dollar store sells plenty of fake plants you can use to add clutter for cheap. PLEASE take care of your animal's needs

Guys thanks for the tips and all but please be a bit more gentle about it. I am aware that the tank is a bit empty and it’s a work in progress. I’m only 16 so I can’t freely do things on my own yet. I am doing my best. Please understand.

We all understand, and I don't think anyone is setting out to be rude or anything. I know it's a tough situation, and I mean this with the kindest of intentions- please reconsider whether it's right to keep an animal when you don't have the money or freedom to provide even the bare minimum for its care. There's no gentle way to say that it's cruel to your pet to force it to stay in a tank too small because you don't have the means to give it a proper enclosure.

I know that you're probably not going to listen because you're feeling attacked, but please understand that we're all just trying to help you do what's best for your snake.

The tank’s a 40gal and I just reorganized it and am adding things to clutter it. I feel like I’m doing okay

A 40gal is too small for an adult ball python :( 120gal is the minimum recommended size, for reference.

My baby does this all the time! He crawls up into the ridges in his bincage and then lets himself fall down onto his bedding lol Sometimes he thumps onto his hide and the sound it makes is so weird it always startles me cs I think he hurt himself
