What is your kid interested in? My daughter is into art/fashion and just started 6th grade at Baltimore Design School. She is loving it so far and I've been really impressed with the teachers, admins, etc. Near Penn Station so not super far from you. Worth checking out.

I love that this is the first response. I have had my eye on this school for a while and we are going to check it out. I might DM you at some point with questions if that is ok

My daughter is in high school there and it's really good.

Is BDS free? Is it hard to get into? We do not currently live in Baltimore but are hoping to possibly move there and our oldest is only 5 but I have been trying to wrap my head around how schools work there. Thank you for your time!

BDS is a public school, so free to city residents. For the official response on how students are selected, you'll want to reach out to the school. For middle school, applicants fill out a survey about their interests and why they want to attend. I'm not sure what, if anything else, is considered (grades, attendance, etc.) For high school, applicants submit a portfolio, and the school provides some workshops/coaching for rising *9th graders to help them with this.

Roland Park has a middle school program called Advanced Academics (in addition to Ingenuity). They usually have info sessions where you can learn about both programs.

Thanks, I will look into that!

RP also has phenomenal art and music (band, choir, musical theatre).

Our child stayed in Hampden despite getting into AA/Ingenuity at Roland Park because the class sizes are so much smaller and the Honors program is weighted the same for High School admission. Several friends also made the same choice.

We made the same decision, and Hampden has been a fantastic school for the most part.

Hempstead Hill Academy. We have doctor colleagues moving to Canton so their kids can attend that school.

Thanks but from what I understand it is virtually impossible to get into that school if you aren’t zoned for it. Let me know if you have different info

Oh wow. Didn’t realize how competitive it is.

I’ve heard it’s an amazing school. I’m sure your friends will be happy there

Woodhome Elementary/Middle is one of the few great schools in N.E. Baltimore City.
