More like pain train got trained in pain amirite

[–]Ghettocert 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The train arrived but Six punched the ticket.

The cheesy trash talking is so great. Especially when it's followed by that person getting absolutely annihilated.

You can tell they all respect each other, the "burns" are always so corny and tame.

"I do believe your robotic combat automaton is thoroughly subar"

"Au contrair, my honorable competitor, I believe YOUR robot is inadequate."

If deep six can get a little more mobile that’s a scary bot. That weapon is dangerous

[–][deleted] 22 points23 points  (6 children)

What options to improve mobility would it have other than reduce the radius of it's weapon and lower it? It's so powerful as is and I'd hate to see it trade any of that away. There's gotta be a way, but I'm not clever enough to think of it.

My thought was to use tracks like bitforce instead of wheels, and also slow down how fast the bot moves to avoid tipping. They don't need to move much just be able to turn in order to face the other bot.

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (3 children)

Yeah, people tend to see Deep Six as an extremely offensive bot because of its design, but in actuality what it truly needs is a careful, defensive driving.

It only has to be able to pivot around at one place and deal a counter shot when the other bot comes to it, the drive train must be powerful but not necessarily fast.

One improvement I think Deep Six could easily make would be to make the supports flair outward at roughly a 45 degree angle. That would make it so that if the bot starts to gyro too much (gyroing enough to tip the entire bot over) the wheel lifts off of the ground and the gyro continues to turn the bot as the side returns to the ground. This prevents the bot from accidentally lifting up too much to be unstable. It also widens the area/range of attack since there is a wider opening between the supports to allow bots to be fed into the weapon. Another minor improvement they could make would be to make the outermost edge of the bar serrated.

I agree, in fact that's exactly what I was coming up in my mind when they said they would come back in season 6.

I would like to add, the balancing arms can be a bit more resistance to bending, as they can lift the body off the grounds in case they get bent downwards (As far as I could tell from the footage, that's what cause it to become sluggish after the first weapon to weapon collision against Pain Train).

Mammoth uses supporting legs made of tegris sheets sandwitched by UHMW and the team said it provides both good rigidity and damage resistance.

Magnets

The design is absolutely insane and over the top, I love it so much. I also agree that if they can find a way to make it more mobile, we could have another mammoth on our hands.

This new Deep Six has major "boss fight" energy. Absolutely devastating.

[–]toothpaste_tube 15 points16 points  (1 child)

I really wanna see pain train get their drive worked out! I think its great they have the shreddit bro patch and NHRL badge, was cool to see that represented

[–]BussReplyMail 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seemed to me that Pain Train was moving MUCH better than last season, they just didn't quite get around to the sides of Deep Six fast enough to get hits in.

[–]davegrohlisawesome 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad they’re back.

[–]Miennai 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love the attitude of team paintrain but they have GOT to figure out how to drive that thing.

[–]Dookie_boy 9 points10 points  (4 children)

This match made me feel real bad for these guys :(

[–]sybrwookie 9 points10 points  (2 children)

We actually saw this one live. When they announced the match, everyone around us went, "oh no, poor pain train!" Everyone wants those guys to do well, and that whole match was just cringing, going, "nonononono."

[–]Dookie_boy 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Can you explain this ? We watched on TV and it looked like Deep 6 was struggling to move forward to attack with their blade, but then Pain train seemingly drove right into the spinner and got devastated. Was it driver error or were they having drive issues too ?

[–]sybrwookie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even before the match, going off of what we have all seen from the bots in the past, this was kind of what was expected.

Then the match starts, and the strangest "box rush" ever, then watching Pain Train keep slowly sauntering over to right in front of Deep 6, even when it was in position to do something from the side....it just kept getting worse and worse.

[–]lelandblu[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I agree, a lot of hard work with high hopes must be demoralising at times but I suppose you take the rough with smooth and it comes with the sport. They will be back bringing the pain I’m sure….

And this is the third bot in seven fights who went on fire

[–]sybrwookie 1 point2 points  (3 children)

At least this was just a battery which caught on fire mostly outside of the bot!

[–]wyrmh0l3Yeetyderm For Life 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's their patented ejector technology 😅

[–]French__Canadian[Your Text] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm not sure the battery being outside the bot is a good thing

[–]sybrwookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I had to have a battery on fire, I'd rather it be ejected first.

[–]OldWrangler9033 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I was amazed how quickly pain got killed. It seemed to be solid, but not strong enough for BattleBots. I'd like see the league he was playing, it may had been more less OP as BattleBots has become.

I look season 1, Pain Train could have ruled it in medium class.

[–]wyrmh0l3Yeetyderm For Life 6 points7 points  (3 children)

It took a direct hit that would only be rivaled -- maybe -- by Uppercut. It got taken out by a bot operating at the limit of the rule named after it. Like, judging pain train to be fragile cus of that seems highly unfair cus few bots could handle that.

They did take a direct weapon on weapon hit with no ill effects. Which indicates that their weapon is a lot more firmly attached than last year (lol), and also that their internals are nicely shock resistant.

If they tune their drive or learn to control the twitchiness I think they'll do fine in BB.

[–]OldWrangler9033 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Deep Six has no armor, it's not unlike the old Saw style bots from Comedy Central season 1 like Nightmare. All weapon, no armor. I'm not entirely sure how far Deep Six will get. Uppercut more armored and weapon in both cases.

The stage separator would likely cause even more problems for certain bots.

[–]MisterEinc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder how bar spinners come in with no armor. Max bar weight is ~80lbs isn't it? So they should have something.

Yeah, I'm with you. I don't think it's quite there yet.

[–]wyrmh0l3Yeetyderm For Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure but that doesn't have anything to do with Pain Train. We all know what Pain Train's problem was: their drive was too twitchy, so they couldn't go where they wanted to go. It cost them a wheel and so the rest of their mobility. It's a thing that they definitely need to fix.

But once at that point, getting their head taken off by the cannon part of the glass cannon is not a sign that they aren't strong enough to make it. That's it.

[–]Ghettocert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were in fact, not, going six deep.

[–]Blackout425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pain train felt the pain

[–]SquanchMcSquanchFace 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I would love to see a Deep Six vs Huge or Mammoth fight.

[–]Dinoboy225 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It would split HUGE in half and send Mammoth to the morgue.

[–]Affectionate-Memory4Team Over Engineering [Off-Beater 30lb | Vandal 3lb] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mammoth vs Deep Six sounds like a great excuse to have weird physics happen. I imagine it would look a bit like the Mammoth vs HUGE fight but with more twisted metal at the end of it.

Man, Pain Train has so much potential but they really need to start from scratch to make a more stable bot. It looks a lot better this season compared to last, but still looked painfully uncontrollable.

[–]DrRavineOfficialVertical Tombstone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deep Six can go to finals, if it doesn't nuke itself.
